I did the same thing to mine like a year and a half ago. It broke and I had to buy another one. You have to put the Ps3 in a open space. Cause what happen to mine was, I have like a TV table and underneath is 2 shelf s, all I did was but my ps3 on the bottom shelf to make my room a little more neater. Only after about 30 mins of playing a game after I put in on there, it just broke. So I learned the hard way. Put it it a open space. My ps3 is basically in the middle of my room now.

My wife will not be happy with me leaving it in the open.

    thats a bunch of bull

I have open shelves under my tv that the ps3 is sitting on(no sides, no back) and I have never had a problem with over-heating. After almost three years the BR laser is acting up, but that is fixable.

Ummm no. I put my PS3 on the TV stand, on its own shelf above the DVR and after about 10 minutes of gaming it started screaming and just shut down. It wouldn't restart for over an hour. I thought for sure I damaged my PS3.

So now my PS3 when in use sits upright on the floor, and when not in use it goes back in the shelf.
