^ practice - free run i supposed. ive only tried one seasonal event, the gtr one, since i have the car available. didnt have much problem with that one and my driving is pretty mediocre. i got second on the third try and got 550000 cr and exp. just make sure u lap cleanly and be aggressive at the corners.
CCR, I am 100% impressed that you built that set up for the game. I would love to have one of those, but the wifey would never allow it. Very cool.... To me, that is why we need basements in Texas, so married guys can have a room like that too... NICE ! DD
Thanks. If I were to do it all over again, I would make some changes (for one, I'd make it more portable so I could take it to a friend's house) but overall I'm extremely pleased with it. The only real negative is that it has absolutely destroyed my sleep cycle.
Does that shifter offer resistance? How about the steering wheel? Are they plugged in seperately, ie have their own motors etc? I have been thinking of getting GT5, but was not sure I was going to go all in on a wheel assembly. DD
The shifter doesn't feel exactly authentic, as it's "looser" than an actual stick shift. But, it's not a wet noodle...you do get a satisfying click sensation when throwing it into each gear. However, gates don't open and close as you hit the clutch, if that's what you mean by resistance. All in all, the shifter is clearly the weak point in the setup, but I would never say that it's bad. The wheel offers an incredible level of precision and force feedback. You feel every turn and every subtle changes in road surface. When your back end slides out on a turn, the wheel goes "dead" as you lose traction...just as it would in a real car. Similarly, when you go over a jump and your tires lose contact with the road, the wheel loosens up until you hit the ground. Everything feels just as it should, and depending on how high you have the setting and what kind of racing you're doing, the wheel can actually force itself out of your hands if you're not mindful. Pedals are great, too. The resistance feels just right, although brake pedal isn't 100% realistic since it registers distance traveled rather than pressure load like in a real car. Luckily, there is a very simple and cheap ($15?) mod you can buy online called the Nixim mod. I have not done it yet, but probably will in the future. I would also strongly recommend reverse mounting the pedals like I did, which more closely imitates a real-world setup and allows you to be more aggressive than the standard setup.
The oldest kind. I have an original 60GB unit. The kind you had to stand in line for (which I did) to get. Its a gaming machine, Blu Ray player, etc... but its also a backwards compatible badge of honor. I hope to be buried with it someday.
Upgrade the hard drive. I have the same model and the load times are decent after adding a 300 GB drive.
Didn't know I could do this. How does one with the older models (I have a four-USB one, too) go about upgrading? They sell those?
You just buy the same sized drive. PS3fanboy had an article up about how using a solid state hard drive with GT5 decreased load times tremendously but I'm not sure how easy that is. Not too sure what a solid state HD is. Hell, maybe it some other kind of HD. That's the beauty of Sony, they let you tinker with their stuff, unlike Microsoft or Apple which lock everything down with propriety hardware and cables. I think you can overheat a PS3 if you use the wrong one though, beware.
I think you can find a 30gb SSD for pretty cheap, I know the decent 60gbs can be had for 100$. But all that space gets used up pretty quickly. The install for gt5 is already 7-8gb.
Anyone tried the GT Academy yet? I think I'm about to fire it up and see how bad I am in comparison to the rest of the USA.
Went at it for a couple of hours and across the 3 races I managed online rankings of roughly 1,050 / 1,330 / 2,080. Not sure of the total # of participants, but I thought I did well.
I believe it's the same type of hard drive as a laptop. If you find the PS3 manual somewhere it actually tells you how to replace the drive. It's pretty simple as the drive just snaps in and out and you'll need to unscrew a piece. I can't find it right now, but I'll post a link to the drive that I installed when I find it. There are some limitations to what you can put in, but I don't know the details.
FINALLY getting into the game after the holidays (bought on opening day). License test B-6 is driving me crazy. From reading the thread, this is only the tip of the iceberg...
