i would recommend the dfgt too. u might not get the clutch or proper shifter (both optional), but for half the price its much more worth it. the sequential shifter is pretty fun too once u get used to it.

anyway once ive finished the professional series i just cant be bothered to race anymore. so i went and bought every single car (under $100000) in premium and just take them one by one round the nurburgring. what a great track.

I'm fairly new to sim racing games (used to play NFS and Burnout), but I'd always wanted to give Gran Turismo a try so I picked it up last week. And man, the game is amazing. I'm still not the best driver but it is just so deep. I've only spent my time on A-Spec and photo travel so far.

I see that for some of you guys the license tests seem to be important. Just wondering, does completing the licenses get you anything (cars, credits etc)? If I do complete it, will it help me in A or B Spec in any way?

In previous GT games, licenses were required to enter other events, but in GT5 they are not required at all. There are 6 licenses with 10 challenges each, and completing a set of 10 with at least bronze will win you a car. Completing a set with all gold will win you another (obviously better) car. I'm not sure if you win a car for gold on all 60 challenges or not (I could find out but I don't want to spoil it for myself).

Aside from cars, you get a small amount of XP and no money. You also have to complete the licenses if you have any interest in ever achieving "100% Complete" status, which is GT's standard of ridiculousness.

So, is it worth it? That's clearly a matter of personal opinion. Will it make you a better driver in other aspects of the game? Absolutely. It drills a lot of techniques into your head so that they become second nature.

No. I have finished many CUPs in beginner mode and not all of them get you a new car.

I have "completed" 11% and am about to finish all the beginner events on A-Spec.

I like that you can get cars that you will eventually use in future races.

I make it a point and stress the fact that if you get GOLD, you will learn how to beat your opponents. The difference in times will be just minute, but they're worth it because of the experience and the "getting used to" of certain tracks with certain cars. I enjoy seeing the GOLD spinning trophy because it means "sweet success."

I'm not talking about A-Spec. In fact I haven't even played a single A-Spec (or B-Spec) event yet. All I'm saying is that you get a car for completing a set of 10 license tests with each level of trophy.

Been messing around with the DFGT for a few days now, and the wheel itself is pretty satisfactory even when downgrading from a g25. I didn't use the shifter on the g25 because I thought it felt so flimsy, compared to a real car and compared to how stiff the clutch is. But the wheel unit of the DFGT feels as good as the g25, with added bonuses like the dial for on-the-go adjustments is pretty good for experimenting with settings.

I've been trying to gold ic10 for about 30m a night. I've only gotten silver once, and only 50% of the time make it out of the first lap without getting chipped at the 2nd big turn or being forced into a wall.

I finally got IC-10 tonight after about 3 more hours of non-stop attempts. I honestly don't understand why it's so incredibly hard to do.

As a comparison, I spent about the same amount of time obtaining ALL the trophies listed below.

    S-4: Gold
    S-5: Gold
    S-6: Gold
    S-7: Gold
    S-8: Bronze
    S-9: Bronze
    S-10: Gold

Again...why make IC-10 the hardest, by far? S-10, which you would think would be the toughest of all, only took about a dozen tries and it's a fairly short one-lap race.

Yeah, I read a bunch of reviews before I bought mine and the mechanical parts inside of the DFGT are basically exactly the same as the 25 and 27. The wheel is the same without the leather.

I got started on them last night and it's a struggle to get Gold in anything. I only have a gold for B-1. Gonna keep cracking at it though.

Enjoy A-Spec, if you decide to go that way. I now have a serious addiction with collecting cars.

I have no idea how you guys are getting golds so easily. On a "good" run I finish just tenths of a second slower than the requirement for silver.

The best I've finished in the VW vans event was 4th (bronze). Do I NEED a gold to unlock the next challenge? I really want to play the Top Gear track.

One thing I'm burning to find out is whether the pit stops serve any function in the game? I just had people over playing arcade mode with mechanical damage on. We thought that a trip through the pit stop would fix the damage, but we just ended up driving through it at 50mph? Is there something I'm missing here?

Well, nobody said anything about easy.

Off the top of my head I would say that most tests probably took me anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to get Gold, but some took several hours. IC-10 was by far the worst for me, taking something like 8+ hours (spread over multiple nights).

    It's a long haul.

Challenges open solely based on your A-Spec level. You must get Gold on the VW race to unlock the Top Gear track. Your place in the Lotus (intermediate) challenge has no effect.

Ah okay. I meant the next challenge within the Top Gear event btw. My A-Spec is now level 12 and I think I can play up to the WRC challenge in the Special events.

I find though that as you progress the game gets a lot slower. I now have to turn to B-Spec to make money to get necessary cars for new A-Spec races.

Any tips for the RX-7 race in the Seasonal Events? The cap is 394hp and mine is already at 389, yet I find it extremely hard to make up ground. Perhaps it's because I'm only used to soft tires and driving my Evo or WRX, but any tips to succeeding would be much appreciated.

As I've stated previously, I spent 100% of my time in the game on license tests and Special Events up until a couple of days ago. So I'm generally not the right person to ask about A-Spec or Seasonal events. Although I did happen to try that RX-7 race, and had the same results that you did. It helped somewhat to short the gear ratios as low as they would go, but even that didn't seem to be enough so I gave up for now.

Just received this game for x-mas, is there a mode to just cruise around the city with no racing involved? I just bought an s2000 but my 92 civic typeR was so much easier.
