Barely over $50, actually. I don't know what FatFat is on about anyway. The most expensive hobby I've ever had was when I was modifying and racing my own real cars in real life.
My point is when you really want to race you do it. These mods are pretty cool, and if you can get them done for under $500 they might be worth doing. But you will never get the "feel" of a car until you actually feel the vehicle.
I am with you on this. I want to be able to feel the G's pull me to the side and make me feel like I'm really driving the darn vehicle. I don't want to just half-feel the driving experience with pedals and a steering wheel. Also, I'm cheap.
Would anyone choose a simulator over the real thing if money, time, safety, location, weather, etc. weren't issues? Of course not. The wheel setup is about having the best possible gaming experience, and while it's a far cry from actually driving a car, it's also a vast improvement over using a standard controller. There are full-blown simulators that replicate the motion of the vehicle and I would love to have one, but they are super expensive and rightly so. For the money I spent and the experience I'm getting, it's one of the best things I've purchased in years.
yea I dont understand why people are saying they rather have and experience a real race car.. UMMMM yea so would I if I had some extra millions lying around ... That's a awesome setup for a few hundred bucks and makes the a awesome game experience that much better!
This may have been posted already, but I just saw this and thought it was hilarious : http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/09/video-gt5-physics-are-completely-realistic/#continued <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uL4acUz4nJw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uL4acUz4nJw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Finally got the game. Logged into GT Mode by chance. Happened to be my birthday. Free car! Totally unexpected. Yay. Crap car though.
I've probably put 40+ hours into the game already, and I haven't even played A-Spec or B-Spec mode yet because I've been trying to get all gold on the license tests before I move forward. So far I've got 49 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze (all on S license) on the ones I've attempted. Current thorn in my side is ic-10. I've also played a good number of the special events in order to get my money and level up, and the Samba Bus race tested every last shred of my a patience. It is hell. By the way, now that I have a few weeks with the steering wheel under my belt, I can confidently say that it is incredible. Increases the enjoyment ten fold.
ZR1 racemodded can't do it? That thing is crazy. Maybe the mazda furai fully modded from the miata race bspec. I was using a g25 until last week when I decided to sell it. Since then I've been using an old driving force pro, which was the gt4 wheel, and it's very disappointing compared to the g25. I know the pedals would be a huge downgrade, and I'm alright with the lack of resistance in the pedals. But the wheel itself can't hold a candle to the g25 either. So much less force feedback, and a looser response, like the wheel of an old camry. I bought a driving force gt from best buys sale last week, but havent tried it out. Should be a big improvement hopefully.
For GT5, you essentially have to go for the G25 or G27 (basically a G25 v1.1) because of the inclusion of a clutch pedal and the far superior shifter. A budget wheel like the Driving Force GT has only a sequential shifter and no clutch. I can't imagine how terrible that would be in comparison to my G27. As far as wheel vs. controller? The learning curve is much higher for the wheel, but once you have the hang of it the game is undeniably more satisfying.
I've really enjoyed the DFGT picked it up for $119.00 -- the wheel and pedals are great. The G25 is obviously much better - the clutch would be awesome, but for someone like me paying 225+ bucks for a wheel I would use once or twice a week is too much.
I guess I look at it differently. The game is plenty fun with the controller, so unless I'm really going to go all out and spend the necessary money to create a legit sim setup (as I have), anything less seemed like it would be a waste. At the very least I would find myself wishing I had put that money toward a higher end wheel. But if the DFGT is good for you, then the DFGT is good for you. P.S. License test IC-10 is what I imagine hell would be like.
The thing that sucks most about the DFGT is the lack of blinker or hazard lights. I hate just jerking into another lane with out signaling the other drivers first.
Well, I devoted another 2+ hours to IC-10 last night and failed. One time I actually had a lead going into the last 1/4 of the final lap, but of course, the 2nd place car tagged me as I was braking into a turn and sent me into a wall. What's interesting is that when I gave up and moved on to some S license tests, I got 2 gold within about a half an hour. IC-10 is just...soul crushing.
