1. If you don't like XBOX and want a good talking point. 2. If you have a moral objection to paying the 50 bucks because online gaming is generally free on PC. 3. If you feel the free PSN offering is a worthy trade off. Those are some reasons, I guess.
Yea but you can't use PSN on a 360. That was my point. If you are buying games for your xbox and want to play them online, XBL is the only service available. I don't think once you have an xbox that buying a gaming PC or PS3 is a reasonable alternative to paying for XBL. In the end, Microsoft charges because they can and if there was a free service offered for the 360, people would use that. I think that is a copout. You're not attempting to discuss the issue at hand. I'll agree with you that 600 dollars is a lot of money. BUT RC and I have given you a breakdown of how 600 is more than justified price for the services the PS3 offers. What I ask is that you now give a breakdown on how XBL is worth the money they charge. I don't think that has been done. heh heh heh heh. When in Rome... I think we have different definitions of fanboy. I consider myself one but I have posted bad news about the PS3 before (Oddly enough, the last of which I posted a few minutes before I came to this thread). I have also complained about PS3 services and even poked fun at Sony in the Madden thread with the "leaked screenshot". If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. I don't have a hard time admitting that. I won't just make stupid and irrelevant comments as soon as I get backed into a corner. I have been outspoken because I feel that a lot of people resent Sony for charging 500/600$ for a system and as a result they aren't evaluating the company fairly. I do take offense though when you say i yell fanboy at people who disagree with Sony. I think I have spent more than my share of time explaining myself with sound and well structured arguments. I do not believe I have ever resulted to "You're a fanboy!" to detract anyone's point. I made the fanboy comment mostly in jest but I do think you are a closeted xbox 360 fanboy. It's obvious to all of us, time for you to set yourself free Rokkit.
xbox live is the only place where u can play street fighter anniversary edition and street fighter hyper fighting against some good online competiton for consoles. sure its $50, but people are shelling out $$$ for customer controllers cause they are hardcore.
Because there is no alternative in this instance doesn't mean they have to use it. Or even own the system. There are other options out there; knowing that you have to pay for XBOX Live isn't some surprise sprung on you after you buy the system. Again, people have decided it was worth it (for them). You think it is a copout because you can not counter the point. Are you not aware of what Live is/how it works? Online gaming, unified friends lists/community options, demos, media, movie service, gamertag, gamerscore, achievements, voice communication, instant messenger integration, etc. etc. I would think - being someone involved pretty heavily in gaming - you would have some idea of how the service works. Now, whether that is 'worth it' is not for me to tell you. But again, that is the point. As I said before, if you are going to judge the xbox user on how their purchase is 'worth it', you're going to have to be prepared to face that same judgement on yours. If you reread the post, you'll notice I said you didn't personally do all those things. But as you admit, you are a fanboy. And I don't agree with fanboyism (or whatever the right word may be ) As far as what you believe me to be...well, *shrug*. Not to be offensive, but what a specific video game company fanboy/defender want to label me as doesn't make much of a difference to me. Kind of odd how it's the Sony guys who want to use that label, eh? Funny how it works out. There are plenty of f*ckups the XBOX has made. Unfortunately, it is the most viable option (right now) for the most complete gaming experience (library, features, support, etc.). That may change. But IMO any real objective gamer would probably see similar conclusions. If there were a system that had less problems/screwed us over less, had the same amount of gaming options and features, and offered a better experience, than that would get the most of my time. As a gamer, that is my only real concern. Personally, I've used a wide range of systems and games since I've been a gamer. I've been doing it a long time, and have seen companies be on top and tumble. That's exactly why I think fanboyism is foolish. In any case, I've actually owned systems/games from all the companies, over several different generations. I don't think many 'fanboys' can say that. (Again, not personally talking about you here) I only care about gaming, and I consider all the major players to have found a way to screw us over somehow. I just consider (for this gen) Sony's job to be a little worse than the others. This is, of course, IMO. This does not mean I don't see their positives or will use/have used Sony products. You can call that stance what you want, to be honest, again, but what actual 'fanboys' try to peg other people as never carries much weight with me.
Rokkit, Also great service cost money. Gamers are paying for that cause they wantto. We all have computers, if you are playing WOW and I'm playing CounterStrike, how can I invite you to play on my squad or how do I even know that you are on your computer? I would have to call you or msg you, but you might not be on messenger. On XboxLive, I can see that you watching your ClutchCity DVDs and I can msg you and you will see my game invite while watching Dream school Patrick Ewing. then you decide to accept my challenge at Street Fighter, you go and get destroyed by me in a room of 4 other games and they can laugh and admire my trash talking. You decided that you really aren't any good at this game and would rather play some gears of war, while waiting your turn at streetfighter you msg some other dudes who are playing other games, get on a talk channel and decide to start up gears. you decide to invite me and you notice that my gears of war skills are low on my game comparison and achievements. we decide to leave streetfighter and join a gears of war game. i throw stick bombs all day and get acused of being cheap. a player can submit a review saying 'i play unfairly'. can't do this on pc or psn. Brando and Cola (who's not even online) can compare PSN to XboxLive all they want. Xboxlive is clearly superior and is what PSN wants to be. its a MUCH better model for advertisers and the user base, ranking systems, communications and content is NBA vs Varsity. if you don't want to spend $50/year or $4.1666666666/month for that quality, don't get an xbox360. hell dont game. fold some paper up and kick field goals with your friends.
this is all really annoying. I don't think the things I'm saying are actually getting responded to. I'm not going to keep this hijacked thread moving forward. I'll just respond to the things that relate me to personally. From the definition that some have of FanBoy, I'm not sure anyone would ever want to classify themselves as one. It seems rather they are confusing fanboy with idiot. I find it funny that it was said that Fanboy is a term that "sony guys" want to use but I wasn't the one to first throw it around in this discussion. I don't think you can assume that a "fanboy" has no other experience outside of the system that they are backing. I used to have a Nintendo,Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Gamegear, and Playstation. I still have a N64, Genesis, Dreamcast, XBOX and of course, PS3. (My PS2 was stolen). I really liked my xbox and played it exclusively after my ps2 was stolen. It might be hard for you to accept but this "Sony Fanboy" could destroy you at Halo 2 (provided you give him some times to work the rust off) When I think of "fanboy" I think back to being a kid arguing with my friends over which is better, the playstation or N64. It isn't about not ever wanting to play the other system. It's just about being in the corner of which ever one you believe in. For a long time, I thought I would be getting a 360 but I wasn't too impressed with the hardware and I was blown away by the PS3. It's funny that people can talk **** about fanboys but take every chance they get they' diss a specific system. This isn't directed at Rockkit. I'm just asking him to look and at the people provoking people like me with their relentless spinjobs and uninformed comments. On a completely unrelated note. RC already pointed out that it is 8 dollars a month for XBL. I'm not making an argument one way or another. I'm just asking that if you want to continue to take up thread space, read what other people are saying. war firmware 2.0
Which is exactly what I don't really understand. What's the point? You yourself said you played mostly XBOX last gen. Maybe next gen Sony pisses you off for whatever reason and you go on to someone else. What's the point in getting annoyed or into debates over something so temporary? When you could be agreeing with them in a few years? It just seems like a lot of work for nothing. It really should just be about the games...which are on many different platforms. So I guess you are referring to tinman. Well..(er, sorry tinman)..he's a fanboy. So maybe you understand why I don't like fanboyism. And in his own way he did answer your question. That, I suppose, is his Live experience. (with some added button pushing for you, I'd imagine) But let's be honest here, it's all the same. Yes, tinman is a little more...colorful. But I've seen you in the last 360 thread you made take a jab at the Live price again, and in another thread where someone asked about the 360 and you gave a 'boo xbox' response and followed up with a PS3 commercial. So maybe tinman uses the 'nails on chalkboard' approach, but it's all the same. And I don't agree with it. In any case, that's my stance on it. Not like it will change anything. But I'll still talk video games and point out whatever I see as a little misdirected (IMO). More than anything I'm just waiting it out till the fall so I have some more games to play.
It's not temporary. Consoles last 5 years at a time and they are the ultimate representation of a company. What got nintendo back into it? Their new console. Not random things they have said and did. DUde that wasn't a jab. It was a joke about the argument we were having in this thread. The whole thread was about the cool service Microsoft was offering. hahahaha, yea I remember that. It was probably a mistake. That wasn't too long after release. It was harder on a PS3 owner there. Come on man, don't be so sensitive. None of this would be happening after E3 when we actually had stuff to talk about.
You mean the representation of how they are going to screw us this gen. And again, it changes with each iteration. You played mostly XBOX a few years ago. Fanboyism is stupid, and one of the worst things about the hobby. So maybe tinman's just joking around, then? Don't worry, I'm not sensitive about it. I usually just shake my head and laugh at fanboys. But hey, everyone approaches things differently. Like I said, it's not like I can change it so have at it. Agreed about E3. Looking forward to it...of course, that's just about every E3, but hey...
