Anyone got tips on beating Adamantoise without genji gloves/summons/death spam? Just stack Gaia and entite rings and pray? I seem to always die around 20% after the first stagger (usually protect/haste wears around then) but I guess the earth resistance stuff will fix it. If I had a genji glove i think Highwind would finish it off but i'm quite far away from the titan missions I think.
Finally got the game recently. Caved in after seeing some of those deals that were going on. About 8 hours in I think: Spoiler Just finished the fight with Odin and the follow-up battle. Pretty much share the opinion of most. Way too linear. Don't care for the characters that much (yet?), and Hope and Vanille are indeed annoying. Too early to comment on the story. Not really liking the battle system/gameplay either, but I might come around to it later. Hard to really get a feel for it when they keep adding things to it every 30-60 minutes or so. The difficulty has been all over the place too (sometimes WAY too easy, then actually pretty hard). And why even have a store if you barely get any money...and the only things they sell are things you have plenty of (thanks to battles). But wow, it sure is beautiful. And excellent presentation all around.
When the world opens up (chapter 11 i think) the store is alot more useful, especially when upgrading weapons
Yeah, I don't doubt that. In fact, I've already used it a bit where I'm at now (for upgrading weapons/accessories). But just seemed pointless to even have it early on. Here's a store that you can buy stuff from...but you don't really have any money...and even if you did, nothing really to buy.
Funny you should bump this thread, I just started on this two days ago. Only about an hour in, up to the point where Hope's mom dies. Every character so far is annoying as hell besides the black guy. This is my first Final Fantasy and I love the visuals and battle mechanics so far, but I'm started Heavy Rain around the same time and find that I can't put it down. I'll probably get into FFXIII more after I'm through with that, then it's Yakuza 3. Way too many games to play... On a sidenote, I'm fearing for the death of my PS3. It's starting to freeze up. It had done so occasionally when playing only NBA 2k9 before, but now I can't finish a game in 2k9 without it freezing, and it has frozen during Heavy Rain and Fat Princess as well. Anyone have any advice regarding how to prolong the life of my PS3? It's an 80GB MGS4 bundle btw.
Yeah, I think Heavy Rain is much more engrossing than FF13, particularly early on. I actually was pretty bored with FF13 in the first few hours (didn't help that I've seen extensive video of that section), but kept pushing ahead. It has gotten quite a bit better though (battle system included). And I know I've said it many times before, but the game is beautiful.
see... if it was worth buying... you'd not be posting, you'd be so into the game you'd ignore everything else...
I've started to realize that the majority of the Final Fantasy games are actually pretty mediocre RPGs. I beat FFX earlier this year and it further solidified that opinion for me. I'll probably knock out FFXII and FFXIII within the next year. I'm actually excited to play FFXII just because it is such a departure from typical FF games (or so I've heard). However, I'm almost looking at playing FFXIII as more like an obligation. I don't think my hype for a game has ever gone from 100 to 0 so quickly.
I haven't truly enjoyed a FF game since IX, althought X wasn't so bad. The addition of voices into JRPGs has absolutely killed it for me. It's essentially turned characters into Japanese anime caricatures, not to mention they're designing character models that way. I don't mind the outlandish plots or characters but actually hearing someone say some of the corny lines, (in squeaky stereotypical anime voices or emo dorks) I just can't do it anymore. This will probably be the first FF game I won't even bother playing at all. I guess I'll just have to stick with western rpgs until someone actually makes a jrpg that's less like a cartoon.
Heh. I never was into RPGs when I was a kid so missed out on a few good ones. I got FF7 off PSN last summer but haven't put much time into it. I plan on playing it eventually, just don't know when.
Versus XIII still sounds pretty good, though. It's almost as if they made it to fill in the holes that plain XIII created (gameplay-wise)... hence the name "Versus"? Here is my post about it earlier: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5220504&postcount=120
Yeah probably. As soon as GOWIII came out I quit playing it. Then when I platinumed GOWIII, I just went on to finish Heavy Rain and started up ModNation Racers. Its an ok game, but I'm going to have to make an effort to get back into it.
Yeah, same here. It would be interesting to look through some of my older posts and see the transition. I was about to bash the game for not allowing you to escape from battles. Accidentally started a few fights with some enemies that I didn't want to fight last night. Not that they were hard, but they were just a pain to kill, and I didn't need the CP or anything thanks to the level caps. Then today I found out that Retry (or whatever it is called) is basically escaping. For some reason, I thought you were taken straight into battle with that. On another note, Versus 13 is in the newest issue of Famitsu apparently. Some new screens of the game, in-game graphics from battle scenes. Also, supposed to be some announcements for TGS. Not FF-related, but also in Famitsu is news that Ninokuni, a DS RPG made by Level 5 and Studio Ghibli, will also see a PS3 release. Don't know if it will make it out of Japan, but I'm sure it will look beautiful (especially in HD...the DS trailers/screens looked great). edit: Taken from Kagari from NeoGAF: edit2: More info Also, Nomura on Agito:
Finally beat the game today. The extra 40 hours or so hasn't really changed my mind. I did start liking the battle system a lot more, but as the battles got more difficult and things became more complex, its flaws really became very noticeable and annoying (some of which are the "what were they thinking?" variety). With some more work, it could be really nice. Some good ideas, but as is...meh. More or less the same for the gameplay in general (stores, upgrading weapons, Crystarium, etc.). Gran Pulse is great though. Missions are good stuff. Didn't really do too much, but probably fun to continue those. Rest of the game is probably similar. Some good ideas here and there, but just not done very well. Story/writing is bad, and the characters forgettable. Well...maybe forgettable if they weren't so annoying. At the end, I was really getting sick of the writing/dialog in the cutscenes (just pointless conversations, trying to seem important but just fall flat). And I'd like to think I'm pretty used to this stuff and can handle it pretty well. But...ugh. Amazing graphics and production values. Actually, pretty amazing stuff all around from a technical standpoint. As mentioned, loading kept to a minimal, and yet the game looks gorgeous and does have some large areas (well, near the end). Music could be better, although some nice tracks here and there (not nearly as good as the usual FF though). Putting in My Hands, as I expected, was horrible, although I guess it could have been worse. VA and localization seemed pretty good, although I should point out there is a difference in bad localization/VA and bad writing. You might find yourself cringing at certain scenes, but that's due to the writing (i.e., likely just as bad in the Japanese version). Overall...I think I might have enjoyed it...a bit. Hard to describe. Definitely has some good parts, and if you are a FF enthusiast, don't think it would be a complete waste of time to play (if you played some of the lesser spinoffs, this probably isn't too different). It definitely has some great moments, which might be enough to recommend it. It is like they took parts of a good game, and stuck it with a lot of bad.
Does anyone know what content was cut out so it would fit on 3 dvds? I remember they said all the extra content removed could have been enough for another game.
I don't remember the exact quote for the comment. Probably won't ever find out, but I'm guessing it was just extra scenes and stuff they decided to scrap. Doubt it had much to do with fitting on 3 discs. Probably had more to do with development of the game being a mess. With some good design and leadership, maybe a better game could have come out...and not taken so long to produce. Probably takes a while to put a game together when you cut so much content.
