I think I read somewhere that the highest you can level to is 712.

As far as open world...not really. Within a level, there arent too many paths you can take. Its not fully linear...you can take a couple of paths, but it basically will lead to the same place. However, you do have the choice of bouncing around from one level to another, you dont have to go 1-2-3...so youre given that freedom.

As far as grass, I dont think Ive explored enough to really see. The majority is definitely dungeon type setting, although, I think I saw some grass somewhere. :D

Think I'm at ~20 hours and level 49, so we're kind of close in that regard. I did beat the bosses for 1-2 and 3-1, but they're both pretty easy IMO. Especially compared to 1-1 and 4-1.

Just beat the Adjudicator. He was kind of tough to me, but I think partly because my melee skills aren't very good. If I wasn't paying attention, he'd kill me in one hit (maybe this is the case for all/most players though). A lot of times, I'd be chugging along, but then as I was circling his side, I got caught by the wall as he was loading up for an attack. Finally took my time a little bit on this last try, and beat him somewhat easily (although one mistake, and I'd be dead of course).

And yeah, not a lot of open grass to run through. This is a dungeon-crawler, so you'll be crawling through dungeons most of the game.

    Time to try out 4-2.

edit: Just realized I got the 4-1 boss's name completely wrong. Don't know where I got Vindicator from...

Damn RC...pretty good on beating that boss. It took me quite a few tries longer. I also had that problem of running into the wall and getting stuck. I'd also be somewhat impatient with him...

I'd try to always get 1 too many hits on his side before he would fall down and he'd kill me with his one shot. Finally, I tried my hardest to be as patient as possible by getting 2 shots in, rotating, 2 shots, rotate, etc...until he fell down. But man, I had to change who I am as a human being to get the patience to do that.

Yeah, that boss really requires some patience...which, whenever you die, you seem to lose. That's another thing about this game. You'll learn to have patience.

4-2 is pretty nice for leveling up. I think I need to find some better armor though. I'm still using the armor from the seller in 1-2 (plate armor I think?).

I've got 4-2, 4-3, 1-3 and 1-4 left, but I'm doing a lot of invading a lately with Scraping Spear....lol. It's a terrible thing to do but I've been on the receiving end of it too so why the hell not !

Many enemies in the game have extreme weaknesses. The Silver skeletons take insane damage from Fire and Blunt damages. A club that cost 500 souls can almost 1 shot them.

Damn, having a hard time with 3-1...not because im getting killed, but bc I have no clue where Im supposed to go and how Im supposed to open the doors on the 2nd floor.

I think Ive spent my last 5 hours of gameplay just aimlessly walking around that level. I think I might just move on to another level and tackle this later.

Havent really made much progress. Ive only beaten 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 4-1.

Edit: Finally got to the boss on 3-1. Pretty easy at that point.

I just finished 1-1. This game is much harder than expected, even after all the warnings. I beat Uncharted 2 this morning, and I found 1-1 harder than the entire Uncharted 2 game (very entertaining game by the way).

    <spoiler>
I made the mistake of thinking I was supposed to kill the dragon on the first stage, and just getting your body back at that point without getting fried to a crisp again is a quite a rush.

Alright fellas, gonna finally call it a night...I definitely put some time in tonight.

Just wanted an update on your status...where you at? :D

    Im at soul level 57.

    Beaten levels:
    1-1, 1-2
    2-1, 2-2
    3-1
    4-1

    Highest upgraded weapon: Uchigatana +5

    Hours played: 25

I had a black phantom invade my game tonight while I was playing 2-2. It was actually pretty intense because I just positioned myself in a way where he could only come at me from one direction. I didnt want to risk walking around and have him jump up out of nowhere. So, I stayed put for a good 5 minutes...then he popped out and started running towards me. His weapon actually sucked, looked like he had a dagger or a knife in his hand. Anyways, after blocking his initial attack, I started attacking him...and knocking off a lot of his HP. It got to the point where he was about a hit away from dying and he turned around and started running. At this point, I was pretty thrilled that I had gotten the better of him...so I start chasing him to finish him off. Long story short...I was so focused on catching him that I didnt realize he killed himself by jumping off a cliff...so I ended up falling down behind him and dying. lol. fml.

    I believe there are 16.

There are 5 worlds and all of them have 3 levels, with the exception of world 1 (Boletarian Place) which has 4 levels.

Wow, we're still pretty similar. I was working on beating 2-2 last night, but it seems like I got stuck or something. I took an elevator path down to the bearbugs, and after looting a couple of corpses, I found myself a bit overburdened (also couldn't find some NPCs). I cast Evacuate to get back to the Nexus to drop of some things, but then when I got back to 2-2, the elevator I used to get down to the bearbugs was still in the down position...and I couldn't find anyway to raise it. Thought maybe I could jump down, but after 3 seconds had past and I was till falling, I knew that wasn't going to work.

I think (or hope) there is another way to get to the end of the level. I know there's some shortcut to the boss, which I didn't take. Guess I could try that.

BTW, don't know if you tried this yet, but if you go to 3-2, make sure you kill Yurt. You can read why, but one of those reasons is his armor is decent (not as good as I had hoped, but not bad).

edit: So I booted up the game today and checked out the elevator room one more time. Finally found a handle that I could use to bring the elevator up...so problem solved I guess.

Beat Flamelurker (2-2 boss). Think the Purple Flame Shield makes that fight way easier. Was a bit surprised when I looked at how much HP he was taking off with some of his hits (barely any).

Guess now I can forge some special weapons...and maybe check out the 2-3 boss.

edit: Crap...I forgot. I attacked a flying bear bug with my Soul Ray. It landed, but went through the bug and also hit the Filthy Man in 2-2. So now he's pissed at me. Guess I won't be able to buy much upgrade material. :(

Crap, I need to get the Purple Flame Shield. I never got it in 1-1.

I really like the shield. Pretty good shield given that it is relatively easy to get.

Hmm...2-3 boss wasn't too bad, although he definitely looks intimidating. Now I need to decide whether I want Firestorm or God's Wrath...though I haven't saved the NPC for either spell, so I guess I don't really have to decide right now.

    Finished my first playthrough

Very satisfying ending, haven't felt this great about beating a game in a year.

Now I wish I can find all the loading screen pictures and the boss pictures...

    * Hugs Demon's Souls artbook and strategy guide. *

Speaking of which, apparently Atlus has discontinued the Deluxe version of the game. They are shipping more copies of the game to stores this week though, so if you've had problems finding the game, might want to check later this week.

    Nice box/case + ~160 page strategy guide.

Preorder bonus was an artbook with a soundtrack disc.
