Except that the current economic crisis wasn't caused by our excessive spending. Now if you're saying Bush has a large part of blame for the deficit, than yeah, you're right there. And I would observe from the protestor's perspective, they have a legitimate cause for protest, as they believe that the President will nationalize healthcare and that is a Socialist policy that will massively harm the United States, and will implement various leftist policies that will wreck our country, so they protest those policies. I'm not saying they're correct, but as leftists protested the Iraqi war and various policies of the last president, so conservatives protest the policies of this one, and there are nutjobs on both sides. And don't act like the Left didn't compare Bush to Hitler, either. One was stupid, and the other has been waged stupidly, but as I've argued again and again, they weren't illegal. There would have been a legitimate legal attack on Bush if the charge that the Iraq war was illegal had any grounds.
I'm not saying I agree with their message(s) but agreeing that the President is always a political figure and its to be expected that protests will follow him.
Aggies, in general, have a lot of class. Those are not Aggies protesting. Those nuts are probably at the state capital doing the same crap on other occasions.
To be fair to us, I saw some pictures today of the protest and there were several classy aggies holding up great signs: one read "today isn't about politics, it's about service" and judging from my facebook friends (no fatty jokes please ) most of the "conservatives" have statuses about "stay classy A&M" and "leave politics aside, it's a great honor to have the president visit campus". Of course there were the militant conservatives but those are just mentally ill. Then there were the r****ds, signs like "Watch fox news for REAL news", socialism communism etc... and a surprising "term limits for congress!" sign. WTF is that about and how does it pertain to Obama lol?
Protests for the sake of protests of course. I dont think Obama's exempt from any kind of protests. It comes down to the quality of work of the protestors, if they represent themselves and the community or supporting institute well. How classy and organized they are, etc...which protests dont tend to be.
Public property, college campus, conservative Texas town, liberal President. Probably about as reasonable a time and place as any for a protest. And let's not pretend that any Presidential action, innocuous as it may seem, doesn't have a political subtext or motive (which is completely rational for a democratically elected position).
