does anyone else question the quality of these shoes? i mean they are $14.99. plus S&B's isn't a bad store if you want to buy college tee's. but everything else (im talking about the store in cs, and i havn't been to any other one) in the store makes me want to throw up. tell me that nobody here buys their pants.
Well I bought alot of UH tees there that have held up really nicely for 7 bucks. And yes I do wear their pants but only for working on cars, camping, or anything else where I dont want to ruin my regular jeans. For seven dollars they are the best work pants I've ever had. As for the shoe quality I'm sure its fine. About 3/4 of what you pay for in Nike etc. is advertisement and their market research. This shoe wont have that, thus the cheapness.
You can hate what he does on the court, but don't hate what he does off it. Basketballs a damn game. Anyone willing to give up money from their own pockets to have a positive social impact gets a thumbs up in my book.
I shop that store frequently and I saw his line a week ago. I think that's wonderful. Just like when Hakeem made sure his shoes were at payless so his fans who weren't so well-to-do could afford them. I think it's wonderful.
i wouldn't be surprised if these shoes have a higher manufacturing cost than a pair of nikes and are probably more durable too.
Oh, I did indeed buy myself a pair of man's camo pants. I love them. I don't like the girls selection so I shopped the mens stuff. I get all my Rice stuff there and my smartass saying shirts. I like it. I don't expect anything is last very long but it's all good. Clothing under $10 I call disposable clothes.
I wonder if Marbury cares so much about the third world children making 5 cents a day so he can sell those sneakers for under 15 dollars? I bet they can't even afford a pair of his shoes. As you can see he put alot of effort in the design stage!
He's making them at the same cost as Nike - whoever is making them on the other side is probably making the same amount of money as they usually would. It is impossible to change a whole supply/demand structure with one line of shoes. If he starts paying more - then that will create an imbalance in the foreign marketplace and people will be quitting other jobs to work for his shoe company and then there will be nobody to do other necessary jobs in their society.
My son bought a couple of pair of the Starbury's BB shoes. I tried on a pair, they were allright, but didn't buy them. They seem lesser quality to me than a 50 dollar pair of nike's but for that price, they aren't one third the quality. The inside padding, the insole, the lack of stitching anywhere are all areas they cut to meet the price point. Still a good idea, the clothes are pretty decent looking, I hope the shoes last, they are all glue, no stitch. I watched Stephon's videos on his website for this stuff and he doesn't come across as very smart.
I severely sprained my ankle in a $40 pair of magic johnson shoes. Never again will I spend anything less than 70 on a pair of b-ball shoes.
Remeber Katrina last year? He donated $1M after he went to LA after the hurricane. Don't like him, but got to respect him.
Very commendable move by Marbury. He may not be the smartest player on the court but this is a really classy move IMO. The prices of bball gear (especially shoes) are ridiculous, glad to see a NBA player recognize that.
If any of you guys are wondering what the quality of the shoe is, I can definitely say they are top quality. I've been a huge sneakerfan, bought Jordans/Nikes for most of my early life until college. I play pick up ball at least 3 times a week and I also am in a weekly league. The durability of the shoe so far has been excellent, I've gotten so many comments on the shoe and how clean looking they are. Most ppl's jaws drop when they hear I bought these for 15 bucks. When it comes to quality, ppl are so negative and tend to assume they would suck just b/c of the price. But really the people who have the most game are the ones w/ the most beat up basketball shoes, and it's the posers w/ the brand new Nikes and sweat bands who have no game. I could never stand Marbury as a player after he left KG in Minnesota, but I think it is awesome what he is doing with this line.
