So what was he to do when they doubled him? As a player, you need to be ready to make a play and shane was. Sure it was a little out his element, but so was the shot kenny smith made over penny in 95. It wasn't a great shot, but it was a needed shot.He didn't question the shot, he was probably surprised as many of us he made it. Alot of shots in crunch time aren't perfect. Hell, when was the last time kobe made a game winner inside 23 ft? Teams aren't going to let you get to the rim,at least not the good teams. They are going to make you make and take a difficult shot. Some guys make them and some guys don't. Look at some of the game winners by dream and see how he was fading out of bounds with 2 guys in his grill. Great players make great shots.
wow dave_78 that's quite a reach, but i guess it's possible when you take his words and chop them down. He didn't just say it was a bad shot, he said he thought "it was a bad shot because shane was soo far off the line, it was just one of those miracle shots".....it comes out different when you chop it up like you did. And Although Battier is a spot up shooter, anyone who's seen him play enough knows he's always in a triple threat position and therefore can actually get off a shot quickly, so the time wasn't an issue with him. He made the right play in that situation, period, quit reaching man..
I dont see how you can like any player if you are going to hold them to those standards Dave. They are clearly playing around.
I said McGrady will be in his 14th year next year, when he's looking for a contract, which is correct. Iverson is in his 14th year now. That's not really the main point anyway so it's a weird thing to focus on.
I know McGrady made the right play. My point is that he threw the ball to a guy who had no choice but to shoot it and and then afterwards he criticized the shot. That's not hard to hear from the video and it's not reaching. It's what he freaking said. As I keep saying to the Tracy apologists, it's just another piece of the McGrady legacy here in Houston as a quitter and a deflector of blame. I'm not sure what the rest of your post is about defending Battier's ability to get shots off.
Again, I'm not saying McGrady made a bad play. What I'm saying is he put Shane in a situation where Shane had to shoot. I have no problem with that. My problem is afterwards he criticizes the shot. What the hell was Shane supposed to do other than catch and shoot? It wasn't even a bad shot. Shane was off the line to give McGrady more space to handle the ball. Do you think any other player on this team would have made those statements after the game? Hell no. What kind of leader tosses the ball to a guy in desperation with time running out and then b****es about the shot?
I like plenty of players. In fact, I like every player on this team except McGrady and I don't even hate him. I just want him to GTFO of Houston or at least eat some humble pie before he plays here again so that he knows his role. I know it's hard for some of you teenagers to understand my dislike for McGrady's lack of professionalism. You're unable to look at his history and make honest, reasonable assessments about him. It's like you believe the guy has had a flawless career and been a model player and each new incident with him is his first so he gets the benefit of the doubt. The rest of us see each incident as just another on a long list of screw ups the guy has been making for over a decade in this league. He has run out of excuses and he no longer gets the benefit of the doubt with us. FYI - I tried really hard to support McGrady and forget about his shortcomings as a player. Last year was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Dave...your a freaking nut. Mountain out of a mole hill. Been really quiet lately, but this blind hate from certain posters is enough.
Then don't respond, genius. As I've stated repeatedly, this is one incident in a career of them. If another player said this I probably wouldn't blink an eye but when someone makes a habit of it the cumulative effect is noticed. My point in bringing this up was that I am skeptical about McGrady's ability to step in and just be "one of the guys" especially if late game plays don't involve him either shooting the final shot or at least initiating the final play. He has complained about touches before so this isn't hate or "reaching" like some noobs and nuthuggers keep suggesting. Here's what I originally said. No hate just my thoughts based on McGrady's history.
Well first of all, I am 27. And I would hardly clasify McGrady's career as flawless or a model player, which seems to be the theme of all the haters these days. Not sure why all these ranters insist on putting words into the mouths of anyone who is willing to give Tracy another chance.
