The vast majority of which were breaking stories of import that hadn't been posted here yet. If posting breaking news without comment is a pet peeve of yours, I'm sorry but it's a silly one. I could understand if I did it several times daily like basso does, but unless I get sucked into a thread I post here about once every two or three weeks these days.
Yeah, honestly as much as I'm rallying against Batman in this thread, he in no way spams this forum like basso and MojoMan.
This isn't that surprising. Here's the thread on a previous poll that had a very similar result and reaction. It is interesting to note that the number for "ACORN stole the election" was pretty different between the two. The "not sure" option is much higher here than there. Still way too high, though.
Yes. On the God question, yes. Because there is literally no way of knowing. Bill Clinton was president of the United States. If I were to ask "Was Bill Clinton president of the United States?" and someone answered no, I would say that person was an idiot. If someone were to instead answer "not sure," I would say that person was an idiot too.
Or, like this... ...just to take it to the realm of "not rooted in reality" like the question of whether he wanted the terrorists to win.
Like I said, just don't be a jackass. You have an extremely small sampling here when you talk about people who self identify as Republicans. I've always voted Republican, but I don't self identify as one. I think the party can generally consider me a strong candidate to vote R. How many scores of other people like me are out there? I'm guessing (and I could be wrong, but I know at lot of friends and acquaintances feel the same). Throw us in the mix of "Republicans" being polled and I think you will get different results. I agree that it's not good there are those in the party who really believe this stuff. I certainly don't want to denigrate them as a person by calling them an idiot. It's just rude and makes you look like a jerk. You don't want a poll coming out with the question, are Democrats jerks, and getting a plurality yes/not sure on it. And I certainly don't agree with your conclusion that if you are a Republican you must get out because those in your party are not smart. We need to work on educating ourselves better. The answer to the questions at the beginning of the poll have no relevancy to political outlook. We have to make sure that we too are not being assholes by changing the message of these Conservative action networks out there.
As an aside, this seems like a pretty reasonable pet peeve to me. If anyone wants to start a thread around a news article, video, or whatever, the thread-starter should at least include an introduction or a comment on why they consider the article (or whatever) post-worthy. Of course, it does not follow that everyone else around here will necessarily agree with the reasoning of the original poster.
Again, my commentary was in my thread title. I honestly can't imagine how there's anything else to say about it than to call the people who believe ridiculous things idiots.
There are such people as idiots. I didn't make them so. I only observed their idiocy aloud. I feel the same way about the KKK. Is that okay with you or does it make me a jerk?
The KKK preaches hate, murder, violence. Not being sure where the president was born is not the same. I forget sometimes you only deal in hyperbole.
What bad does it do? Now I'm serious. We're talking about people who think the president is a racist that wants terrorists to win. These people are completely out of their minds. What difference does it make if I call them idiots? I do the same thing when a ref makes a bad call or someone cuts me off in traffic. Seriously. What is the big deal?
I think you may want to do some googling. And no, there is nothing wrong with using the word "idiot" if it's accurate.
Hyperbole is sometimes a way to make a point about someone else's ridiculous argument. What is your damage about the word idiot? Are you seriously concerned that I am assaulting crazy people's dignity? Or are you just having another of your lawyerly philosophy tangents?
Do we need to get technical on the meaning of the word "idiot"? No that's fine, you guys keep calling people idiots and stating how the common man just doesn't understand the President's agenda. We'll just keep winning elections. I literally have no more time to argue this semester. Will see you guys in the Summer maybe.
I think we do, precisely because you got so bent out of shape about it. Here is the first definition from dictionary.com: "an utterly foolish or senseless person." And I repeat, people who believe that Obama is or might be a racist, wants or might want the terrorists to win, isn't or might not be a citizen or is or might be a socialist are idiots.
