So not to get off topic in this Utah bashing thread, but I wouldn't mind discussing Promotional Nights at the Laptop...

Yesterday's Seattle Times article lists the following promotional/fan-friendly changes for the Sonics this year in an effort to bridge the "widening gap between fans and their franchise".

    * Sitting Courtside during Pregame warmups
    * Kids under 16 can shoot postgame foul shots
    * Personal Giveaways from players (i.e shoes) and autographs following select games.
    * Taking part in player pregame activities as members of the "starting five" and "team captains"
    * Forming a fan gauntlet that welcomes the Sonics after halftime
    * Greetings by former Sonics and dance team members as fans enter the Key Arena
    * Sonics Value Tickets from Ticketmaster- $10 gets you a seat and a meal. (this week it's all you can eat cheez wiz)

    * Concessions discounted 25% between 5:30-6:30pm
    * Green/Gold Rewards Program- free to sign up. Earn points towards gifts by swiping card at one of 10 kiosks at the Key.
    (What's a kiosk?)
    * First 10,000 fans receive Sonics T-shirts (at EVERY game)
    * Slick Watts to sign autographs in Sonics Team Shop. (I assume this isn't for every game, but you never know..)
    * One empty seat on Sonics bench in remembrance of the Sept. 11th Tragedy

So, I think the sonics have done a pretty good job of thinking of marketing ideas to help get more people in the seats. I have no idea about the Rockets additional promotional plans, but just thought I'd share this info. w/ you guys.

To me, the biggest thing that will get people in the seats is putting a winning team on the floor. After the Rocks start off 10-0, the fans will come! The Sonics? well.. they better keep coming up w/ kooky promotional ideas because the winning thing ain't happenin' for a while.

I hate to get back off topic, but I've been off the computer for a while.

Seriously achebe, I did read your thread and you were hating on Houston any way you look at it. The reason for my reply is because I get tired of all the stupid ignorant $#it people say about this city to put it down. Don't you think it gets old? Truthfully I really didn't insult utah as much as I defended Houston (with the exception of the mormon thing) so maybe you should look in the mirror with that "dumbass" remark. I could care less about utah, but don't trash my home.

Please list the horrible things that I said about Houston. I joked about the Gulf being salty (you should say the same thing about Salt Lake) and there being a high level of pollution in Houston (the same is true in Salt Lake b/c during the winter the cold dense air acts as high pressure and doesn't let the smog escape over the 11,000' mtns.).

Exactamundo. If you reread my posts and the posts that I was responding to Wakko, you'd see that I was defending Utah as well.

Regardless, this is getting boring. Sorry to detract from your thread rockHead. Lil Francis et al,,, the next time someone does rag on Utah, just realize that there are different strokes for different folks. IMO, Utah rocks... and I seriously pity anyone that doesn't live here (and likewise I only ridicule those people's lifestyles in defense when those people insult what I consider heaven on earth :)).
