Also back in the 80's, there used to be a sign outside of Greenville, TX, east of Dallas off of I20 that read something like, "The only thing black in Greenville is the dirt." It's still not uncommon in nearly any town to have a racial division by neighborhood. East Austin, South Dallas, the list goes on.
Yoyo, were you able to watch the rest of the documentary yet? I caught the last 15-20 minutes of it last night but I DVRed it and will watch it soon.
I just watched it.It was pretty good. My family is from Mississippi (I was born in Houston). My mom would always tell us about this different things and obstacles they faces when integrated the schools when she was a kid. It's a 5 hour drive to Gloster and the stories she told either broke your heart or pissed you off. I told her she should write a book cuz i swear its endless. To this day there are certain towns you cant stop in for gas or anything because they don't like you because of the color of your skin and will run you off the property. I love every ethnicity and culture. Its sad everyone in the world cant do the same. I only wish I get a chance to travel to get the privilege to experience them all.
I saw that movie. It sounds like this has a lot of the same issues going on with the HBO documentary.
How is this comment acceptable? I don't see how this is any different than the other degrading comments made. The double standard on this board is ridiculous. I have family from Mississippi that I am very proud of. Are they racist? No. And just fyi, there are "morans" in every state and that will never change nor will racism. Get over it. The sooner people stop making an issue out of it the sooner we can leave it in the past.
Not in the least bit actually. Believe it or not there are people on this board who call it like they see it and don't just go with the flow.
I know that but I honestly think he did not mean any harm in his comment. I think he was actually firing back and Vanity's comment which did seem unnecessary.
I know but I just don't see how some comments are acceptable and some are not. Everyone talks about trying not to offend people any more and for what? So they can feel better about themselves behind their computer screens? Give me a break.
Oh I wasn't talking about me. I was just saying that some comments are ok and some aren't and its just not right. Racism, sadly, will always be a problem. How it started, whether that be in the Middle Ages or not, was a sad day in history. Only from our past can we learn to forgive and learn from our mistakes. But you know, with the end of one problem comes the beginning of another one. That's life, but there is no reason to have disparaging comments made at each other. I'm not just talking about this thread, the hangout, or even this site in general. All I'm saying is try to say something nice to someone today. You'll never know just how far a few kind words will go.
Going to public school isn't a freedom since you have the option of sending your kids to private schools or home schooling them.
I know for a fact that everyone in Mississippi is an idiot. I have met two of them and they were both idiots.
LMAO! am I ever sorry I missed this one a few days ago. if you didn't knew the "morans" reference wasn't a typo on my part, than you probably didn't catch the part where I was responding to someone calling an entire population inbred using the term "know wonder"
