His bat was below his career averages last year. If he plays to his career averages he's a perfectly serviceable backup OFer. I'm a big Appy fan but he's untested and more unfortunately his value is highly tied to playing CF where the Stros have a lot of depth. I see little reason to carry Aplin over an experienced Presley or a higher upside Marisnick. Prospects are nice but a couple lower variance guys on the roster don't hurt either.
If the Astros keep Fowler, Marisnick, Fowler, and Springer should be the starters. Grossman in my opinion should be the 4th OF. I hope keeping Presley is just for added depth and doesn't mean they aren't keeping Fowler.
Fake contract, back loaded like a mofo, 30 mil first 3 yrs. He probably wont be there after 2. Why would he sign with those idiots in Miami unless he is not sure about himself after the face shattering pitch?
Im sorry to suggest Santa may be ficticious, He''s Real!! Ok? Its the contract thats fake, the contract.
Where is he going after 2? Also, this deal seems pretty team friendly as well as player friendly... its basically a 6 year $107 million dollar deal before the player-option kicks in, for which Stanton (unless he's an absolute bust) has a high chance of opting out of the contract since who knows where contract dollar values will be at that time. At that point, the Marlins would have had a player for his entire prime, with the best chances to contend (with the amount of young talent they have)... and once he opts out, they're not tied into the bulk of that contract.
Yep... and he makes out too if he continues to produce. He'll only be 31 at that time having made $100 million, around the time when Springer is still trying to get his first big pay-day. Again, only way the Marlins get screwed is if he absolutely flops, and then he'd have no reason to opt-out.
I am curious to see how he comes back after that ball to the noggin. That can change some guys. That big contract is also going to test this guy's passion for the game.
Their system blows but oh well it is a start.

Tigers have had preliminary trade contact with the Astros on catchers, sources say. Considering the Tigers are old, they would more likely be willing to part with more "MLB Ready" talent versus guys that have actually produced in the majors. I'm thinking the Astros still can be persuaded with more future expected value to give up some current season expected value. Granted, I think the Conger trade was the first in a while that the Astros gave up more years of club control for less.
Of course they would, but they don't have a lot to offer. Nick Castellanos is really still more prospect than proven, and the biggest trade chip they have. They already have Alex Avila, so they are more likely interested in Corporan or Conger than they are Castro.
Rumors that Tigers are shopping Price around, who still has one more year left. They're looking to get younger and use Price's money to re-sign Scherzer. But Price would demand quite a bit more than Castro, and I don't see the Astros trading for Price for only one year of services.
