New York has a very large Asian (particularly Chinese) population. You'd be surprised..

actually i'd have to say that Moe's pretty correct in that assumption. Asians don't have a national voice.

Yeah Asians do not have an Al Sharpton type figure. Part of the reason is most Asian communities themselves are divided. That's why you see Chinatowns, Koreatowns, and Little Tokyos. It's more about ethnicity, language, and culture. So you'll never see a "unified voice"

It is not how well we are doing as a group, it is that everyone thinks Asians can be pushed around or ignored that get some of us agitated.

Once asians start getting into politics, changes will follow. until we can stop opening little fried rice joints and dry cleaners, nothing will change

Do you think mainstream Americans will elect many Asian politicians? Fat chance.

Oh, by the way, your view of Asians will only open restaurants and dry cleaners are so outdated.

Asians are into politics on the local level quite a bit like Gordon Quan and Martha Wong and a few others. South Asians have also made some impact in politics as seen in recent governor elections and congressional in Louisiana. If you give it another 20 years, you will see alot of Asians in Congress and other power positions.

it doesn't mattr, these kinds of programs shouldn't exist at all

The board of ed has absolutely ZERO right to limit this program to a specific race no matter the reason. The guidelines for this program only says that anyone who qualifies for a free lunch is eligible. No mention is ever made of race requirements, because they know if they did that, then it would never get any funding.

so your objection is any AA program based on race.

nods, as in my original post, I questioned why this program has to be based on race, as I've known plenty of poor hwite people who could have used this program also.

Separate people on income level instead of race? Nobody really wants that.
