This is textbook cultural appropriation. Not wearing dreadlocks or a red dress to prom.

Many people have attempted to explain but I still don't get it: how is being transgender different from being trans-race or whatever?

That professor should've doubled down and made it a "social experiment". I think her fans would've bought it lmao.

    Now she's just a two-bit Rachel

Sexuality is more complex than mostly physiological appearances. If you reduce things down to race being a social construct, we should in theory ultimately treat it like someone wanting to change their hair color. But no one is getting ****ed up over their hair color.

Now we call it Black Face. So people should put a pin on race changing until we level the playing field on that.

Being a man, woman, or they however not only influences how you think about yourself, but also how others think about you in the most primal level.

    How so?

People get ****ed up for a lot of reasons. I don't think that's a useful standard.

Everything influences how you think about yourself: your birth date, your place of birth, your economic condition, etc etc etc

Thanks for answering, but I'd say, as a white man, I'm much more similar to a Black man than I am to a white woman. Yet people would believe I'm a white woman if I said so, but I can never be a Black guy. I still don't get it.

I don't think people will fully believe, rather they accept out of politeness and awareness of the trans and scientific community's messaging over the issue.

That's partly why it's more complex than just having certain bits n pieces. ;)

If you're academically honest about the issue, I would ask some trans people about it. They have a lot to speak about the matter...

You know what's so enormously ironic? How regressive it is.

Suppose someone with a penis identifies as a woman. What does that mean? They think they don't have a penis? No. Maybe they don't want a penis, but they know they have one, right?
So what makes them feel like a woman then? "I know I have a penis, but I feel I'm a woman because . . ."
    "I like high-heel shoes"?
    "I look at purses online"?

What are they identifying with except gender stereotypes from the past?

You could say Bruce Jenner basically wanted to turn into a Barbie doll, so now that makes Barbie dolls cool again, for some reason.

Cross dressing is not synonymous with transgender identity.

I'm not gonna rehash the "bathroom debate" because I don't really care about it, and it was overplayed in various media for a long period of time to the point where I felt like it was crammed down my throat.

It boils down to whether you want to respect people diagnosed as trans and are willing open the door to others who are mostly confused on their journey of sexual confidence. In a sense, it's similar to people "born gay" and those who are bored and like to dabble gay. What's confusing is that gayness is not part of transgender identity because gay males and females presumably identify themselves as their biological sex first.

The other parallel layer is cultural perceptions of masculinity and femininity. Greek and Roman cultures of antiquity thought sodomy and pederasty as common practices, so they definitely didn't hate gays as evidenced by their leaders... What they looked down on were effeminate males who didn't display qualities of leadership or reliability.

Sexuality is not a 2 dimensional continuum (mobius strip?) and the perception is most likely a biproduct of Western culture. There are other societies that have categorized sex as non-binary which means its likely trans from those cultures don't feel insane and suicidal about their "feelings" while the rest of their peers think they're something else.

60,000 years ago my black ancestors came out of Africa. There I admitted it. I have been living a lie my entire life.
