Vader had a similar incident on "Good Morning Saudi Arabia" (or something like that, IIRC) of all places...

Bah, I could say exactly the same for the NFL, what with all the bending over and ass-slapping that goes on there.

Ah, but in a good match, you SHOULDN'T know who the predetermined winner is. The entertainment is in the execution of the match.

The appeal for everyone is different. I got hooked during the real life comic book era of Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior, so I find wrestlers with great gimmicks, loads of charisma, and "the look" more entertaining (guys like The Rock, Steve Austin, Sid, Vader, etc.).

There are also people that enjoy more pure wrestling and athletic ability (Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, Bret Hart, etc.) for the sheer performance of amazing feats- Brock Lesnar F-5ing the 500 pound Big Show, Mysterio flying around the ring, etc.)

Both camps aren't necesarily mutually exclusive.

I started to really get into it when the NBA was on strike. There were no other sports to watch! I had to watch something athletic.

It was great, Jericho was in his heyday. He could humiliate anyone with his trash talking. These guys are entertainers. It's very good comedy too. The "prime time" show writers could learn a thing or two from wrestling.

The greatest wrestler of all time is this guy:

Seriously, I haven't watched wrestling since the WCW was bought by the WWF. The competition between the two companies made them both better. It was Vince vs. Austin on one channel and the NWO vs. the world on the other. Good times.

Now it's all just played out.

The first time I figured out wrestling wasn't real was when I questioned why Jake the Snake didn't do twirl his fingers and slap the DDT right away to win his match, instead of fighting the guy for ten minutes before doing it. The DDT is pretty simple to execute, but my friends insisted that his opponent needed to be soften up before a finisher could be used. Smells like bacon to me.

I loved wrestling as a kid cheering for the British Bulldogs, while booing the Hart Foundation. It's essentially a male soap opera that magnifies real human issues ranging from jealously, pride, anger, love, success, etc. and turns it into story lines. And the funny thing is they keep recylcing the angles. We booed flag waving and anthem singing Nikoli Volkov and the Iron Sheik back in the eighties when we hated the Soviet Union and Iran. During the gulf war 1, the Iron Sheik became Iraqi to fight Sgt Slaughter. Later on we blamed Canada. And now they have a French tag team that we boo as well. But what always worked was for the good wrestler to come out with old glory and chant "USA! USA! USA!" The fans eat that up, much like our current administration winning points that way, but I digress.

lmao. This is so true; TJ - I have taken a page from your book and used somewhat similar tactics on one certain authoritative poster here. I think you know who I am talking about.:D

Wow. Maybe I should watch it...if for no other reason than to see one wrestler trip over the rings getting in, fall on his face trying to get up, get pummeled round after round, declare victory whenever he comes up for air, and afterwards talk to the press about how his pummeling was secondary to the fact that his opponent raised an eyebrow when watching the other guy try a victory dance lying on his back...

The wrestling equivalent to Trader_Jorge: Colin " Bomba" Harris.

    ;)

P.S. I would be a HUGE fan of anyone who could post a pic of Colin Harris with some catch-phrase of T_J's, like EXPOSED, OWNED, VICTORY...especially if it shows him beating up on himself as T_J unwittingly does so often...:)

Or maybe you should just watch it to figure out that the ring is where the wrestling takes places and the *ropes* are what a wrestler could potentially trip over when entering the *ring*.

    JAG,

I think you misunderstand TJ's pointing out the distinction between ropes and rings (or maybe you do and you are just purposely trying to deflect that point).

Saying "in tripping over the rings" makes it sound like the wrestler is doing a gymnastic thing not wrestling.

It is funny because I picture you as this professor type and you don't even understand enough about the very thing you are asking to come across with an effective slam on TJ.

Sorta like the time when President Calvin Coolidge was introduced to "Red Grange of the Chicago Bears" and remarked, "Young man, I have always loved animal acts!"

    Still talkin about me?

You're right though, not a day goes by when I don't live in fear of your personalized sitzkrieg/blitzkrieg

...you're probably plotting your next move right now...

No, I boxed for years, and the terminology is the same, I expect, although I admit to having never watched wrestling enough to know for sure.

If so, as I expect, tripping over the ring is a phrase for being clumsy...the ropes make up the ring, but you enter the ring, and thus can trip over it. Tripping over the ring is an exaggeration, like hitting one out of the park, etc.

I'll agree with RIET on this one.

MacBeth, you need to spend more time in other forums instead of arguing & playing the psychological games with Trader_Jorge in the D&D.

IMAO, your posts are not as interesting to read as in the past, & I must say that you dedicated yourself to the political games too much these days & lost a bit of sense of humor. You really need to 'hangout' more & loose up the tension a bit...

There is a good reason why heypartner was challenging people to post in the GARM & perhaps to why himself is not posting these days.

And to T_J: For the goods of the BBS, could you kindly consider give MacBeth a break - Even though I really enjoy seeing you psyche up the others & get them to play your little mind game, I think you work too hard these days & should give yourself a good break too! :p :D

Wrestling does nothing for me. Can't watch it. I find it silly.

    However...

Many find it entertaining -- so all the more power to them. And the athleticism is real (pharmaceutically enhanced, perhaps, but real). When a 300lb guy jumps down from the top ropes, it’s hard to fake the landing.

    I go to plays.

The endings are preconceived. Sometime I even know them before hand. The actors don't really die or even get hurt, even if they pretend to. Maybe others don't see the appeal?

    Pavlovian Dog,

There you go again with this "me-centric" attitude, everything revolves around you here, doesn't it?:p How do you know that it was you I was referring to, but yea, playing psychological warfare with you would not be that fun because you are an easy mark, Sam with your paranoia and everything.

BTW - you must be a huge Wrestling fan to find such an obscure pic like that!

Can you tell me when the next PPV event is so I can tell my Wrestling watching friends to make sure they don't forget to tune in?

Well at least you learned something from me

There you go again with this "me-centric" attitude, everything revolves around you here, doesn't it?:p

no, not everything, just whenever you decide to call me out, a la Stone Cold Steve Austin for some slight, real or imagined..

How do you know that it was you I was referring to, but yea, playing psychological warfare with you would not be that fun because you are an easy mark, Sam with your paranoia and everything.

Good point, perhaps you have other foils with which to work your dastardly deeds; I hope I shall be able to find these gentlemen one day in that we unite against your treachery. Or not.

Google image search. But on the subject, yes indeedy, I did watch wrestling for two periods when it hit its peak of popularity, for about 3 years in the Hulkamania period in the mid to late 80's("Houston Wrestling" was my favorite show for a while there; Hell, I even went to Paul Boesch night when he retired) , and then the WWF for about 1-2 years there in 1999-2000; it was fun to watch, I'm not ashamed to admit it.

The PPV's are usually either the first or last Sunday night of each month, I can't remember which. So there's one on sometime in the next 2 weeks if you want to watch

LMAO. Hate to burst your bubble, but I knew about Pavlov and his experiments when I was in high school but it confirms my idea that you are full of yourself. Congratulations.

Sam, serious question here: do you really have some case of paranoia? Where in my first post here did I ever mention your name? I just called you out because you quoted my post and called me out first.

Something tells me that you would not be able to handle these dudes because they are some bad mofos! But, they could always use a lackey or valet, though...hell, they would probably welcome it!:p

Okay, cool. Thanks for the info as I will relay that onto my rasslin' buddies. It's a shame that they are not that proficient with the Internet or they could get on-line and converse with you as the action is unfolding. :( But, I am still working with them, so have patience, authoritative one.

How do you feel about boxing? I've often thought that there were quite a few big matches that were fixed.
