Its my fault Oski I linked to a bunch of old threads related to who wanted Yao and who didnt in the other thread. I forgot that the normal reaction for noobs to old threads is to post in them.
I know it's a big no-no to repost a thread, but it was a fun read. Everybody I knew was just so adverse to drafting Yao and with limited knowledge/exposure I couldn't wait for him to get here. This is Houston, and potentially great centers become great. The basketball gods have a "thing" about this city.
Man, I can't blame the people who thought Yao was gonna be a bust. A player at that height had never been anything really special before, and he was from China. I rooted for Yao and thought he would succeed, but I can definitely understand why others thought differently.
This just might be the funniest post I've ever read. It started so well, and then disaster struck around line two. Who could have predicted 5 years ago that Yao Ming would be the ONLY player left from that team on the roster?
I didn't post in the original, for some reason, but had already been "Pro-Ming" in threads weeks before this one. How long did it take most of the original "3600" members to start using Yao instead of Ming? I can't remember. (not the "300" ...I don't go back that far!! )
Why not extend this to all of our players and coach as well? here, I'll start: Pro - Ming Pro - McGrady Neutral - Alston Pro - Head (in more ways than one) Neutral - Hayes Neutral - Howard Pro - Battier Neutral - JVG Pro - Mutumbo Pro - Snyder Neutral pretty much means I like them EXCEPT for one or two things. I can't really say I'm anti (completely against) anyone on this team. Well, except... Anti - mentally weak fans
IIRC we started calling him MIng before we were informed by the Yao-generated-masses that the names in China are used reversed from how we do it. besides....Yao just sounds so much cooler and easier to say and anyway...the name Ming always reminds me of
chill out dude. Its a fun read to see what other people were posting back then and what people thought of yao. In fact i always enjoy reading threads from many years ago just to see how times have changed. Im 100% sure that someone is going to bump the shane battier trade thread on its 1 year anniversary. Its just fun to see how r****ded some ppl looked and chaotic everyone was. There is no need to call someone out like that and just go off on them.
I always thought Ming the Merciless would have been a good nick for the big fella, but it was not to be.
