I wished the sequel made more money at the box office. Gosling killed it and would've been interesting to see if they could bring him back.

Fun fact:The movie Soldier with Kurt Russell is in that universe for some odd reason...

Without Blade Runner there wouldn't be a brilliant season 1 of Altered Carbon, so thank you Ridley and Ford. Will watch.

BLADE RUNNER 2099 Officially Adds Hunter Schafer In Co-Lead Role
    [IMG]

Prime Video's upcoming Blade Runner series has found its co-lead, with Hunter Schafer set to join Michelle Yeoh in the follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049...

We recently learned that Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) had signed on to play one of the two female leads in Prime Video's sci-fi series, and Variety has now confirmed a recent rumor that The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star is set to join her.

The trade doesn't share any official plot or character details, but according to reliable insider Daniel Richtman - who broke the news of Schafer's casting last week - the Cuckoo and Euphoria star looks set to play Cora.

The previously-released plot synopsis revealed a little about this character (could she be a former Blade Runner?), who will join forces with a Replicant named Olwen (Yeoh).

"In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant who’s confronting the end of her life. The two are pulled into a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn."

Filming is expected to commence later this month or early July.

Shōgun director Jonathan van Tulleken was recently tapped to helm and executive produce the first two episodes. He replaces Jeremy Podeswa, who was originally set to direct before being forced to step away due to a scheduling conflict.

Amazon Studios and Alcon Entertainment are developing the project, with the original sci-fi classic's director, Sir Ridley Scott, on board as an executive producer. Silka Luisa (Shining Girls) will serve as showrunner.

"The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers," Amazon Studios Head of Global Television Vernon Sanders said in a statement back when the show was announced. "We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors."

Alcon co-CEOs and co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson added, "Audiences first discovered Ridley Scott’s brilliant vision for Blade Runner 40 years ago, and since then, it has become one of the most influential science-fiction films of all time. Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up sequel, Blade Runner 2049, then became one of the best reviewed sequels of all time."

With such a lengthy time-jump between this series and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, it's highly unlikely that Harrison Ford will reprise the role of Rick Deckard. Ryan Gosling is a possibility, although his Replicant character appeared to die in the closing moments of the 2017 sequel.

This doesn't mean he couldn't return, of course, but It seems far more likely that the series will focus on a brand-new cast of characters with minor ties to the movies

Prime Video always struck me as Netflix's copycat sibling with dump trucks of money they have no business spending. Adding those blasted ads drops them to Hulu tier.

Its interesting they're name dropping Villeneuve even though 2049 was a commercial flop and the show likely won't touch material from the movies.

Maybe it's for the love of the the spirit of the series or it's something cursed like the live action Ghost in the Shell?

I didn’t even realize that 2049 was a BO flop. But I didn’t have any urge to go see it, I guess much like Furiosa. It was good when I finally saw it.

You're (royal you, not *you*) either interested in seeing "big" movies in a theater or you're content to watch them at home. BO numbers do not reflect the quality of a movie at all now that streaming and badass home theater is pretty ubiquitous.

Furiosa was fun as hell. Now I want to go see the Godzilla/Kong thing before it leaves my local (which now has pimp reclining (reserved!) seats and legroom and in-seat service and that fancy pants stuff)

Big box office $ is a good indicator of 'good' in a lot of cases but what's 'good' is subjective. There are movies I think are terrible that made big money. /shrug

So at the end of the day, it's a matter of time for me. I was able to take my two older boys to see GxK and they loved it. It's stupid and it's fun.

2049 and Furiosa are more date movies for my wife and me, and that's a tough one time-wise these days. I don't really do movies with my bros anymore. That time is either reserved for festivals or board game weekends.

Nope, but truth. Bad Boys 6, anything by James Wan, Fast and Furious 12 come to mind on the low end.

I’ll watch it, of course, and hope it will be good, but my opinion of Amazon Prime is similar to that of @Invisible Fan, to a degree. I’m skeptical of what Prime will do with Blade Runner, regardless of the time period they’re using. They have a mixed bag of results when it comes to producing “original” material, in my opinion.

I’ll add that Amazon charging a fee to have content free of ads is outrageous, considering that members of Prime have already been paying out of pocket for many years to have Prime’s streaming service as a perk included with the ever rising Prime fee members have been handing over to pay for that gigantic yacht Bezos is enjoying, the world’s largest. Prime is a perk no longer, except for Jeff Bezos. I hope Ridley has control over what’s being produced. That would make me a bit more optimistic.

Dude, all I get are 20 seconds of ad and then the rest is ad-free. Is it different for you? Am I super-special?

Buck, you’re super-special, with or without ads! ;-)

We hate ads and we’re paying the 2.99 a month not to have them. So yes, it’s different for us. Haven’t seen them! Twenty seconds or two minutes, often or rare, Amazon’s greed knows no bounds! (apparently)

I think it depends on what shows. It seems like some of their original first run content does that but older content seems to have multiple ads. Having grown up on TV where you couldn't skip ads I'm going to suck it up and not give Bezos more of my money.

If you stream older shows, they chop it up like vanilla YouTube then progressively add more ad time with each break.

No bueno. There's plenty of other steamsites out there
