Brent Barry! 6.0 assists per game is too much too pass up. Also he is a pretty tall point guard. If we were to get Fisher I think our point guards would be way too small. Also, he is a really good 3pt shooter. That would be extremely handy to have him out there to hit the wide open shot. Hudson wouldn't really fit because he needs the ball in his hands too much to be the role-playing point guard that we need. However, if we did get Fisher it doesn't matter how well his FG% is. He wouldn't be expected to score a lot with McGrady there. I mean with Kobe and Shaq he only averaged around 7 shots per game.

    PG-Barry/Lue
    SG-JJ/Nachbar/A. Griffin
    SF-TMac/Nachbar
    PF-Howard/Mo/
    C-Ming/Declerq/

If Howard can swing between the 4 & 5 our team should be pretty much set. Hopefully we can give Boki enough minutes so he can start to develop somewhat. This is going to be one hell of an interesting year.

we'll trade Mo Taylor to the Sonics for Daniels + Booth (or James)

we'll also pick up McDyess or Wizards restricted FA Etan Thomas as Yao's body guard on the court. Howard will be our 6th man provides scoring off the bench like Taylor did last season. we got a very balance and talanted line-up for next season:

    Yao Ming, Booth, Spoon
    Thomas, Howard, Padgett
    Jackson, Nachbar, Griffin
    McGrady, Pike
    Daniels, Lue, wilks

I'll be a season ticket holder then... :)

take a look, you guys would love him (led the league in assist/turnover per 48min; #8 assist / 48min)

    Antonio Daniels

DaneB, did you just mentioned Howard spending some time at 5?
    thay's scary.

Why would Seattle move him? That would be a great pickup.

Derek Fisher is a JVG type player, plus he's played with 2 superstars at the same positions. He's our best option IMO

I voted Barry because he can play multiple positions and his ability to run the break, Lue could still get significant minutes at PG and Barry could get some backup minutes at SG and SF.

Fisher didn't seem to do much of anything this year although his PT was limited. However, when he did play he did not impress me. I believe he's overrated and has benefited tremendously by being on a team with Kobe and Shaq. He does play tough D but he seemed to have lost a step or two this year.

my vote is for Barry also. excellent jumper, great vision, finishes well and has a great all around game. is getting older but he doesn't rely so much on athleticism as he use to.

I like Barry and would certainly like to add him to the team, but with McGrady, it's a different team. The primary reason I wanted Barry before was that I felt he would complement Stevie Franchise very well. With McGrady, I don't see why we would stilll want a combo guard. I'd much rather have a Fisher-type (who I see as a good defender, decent distributor, and clutch perimeter shooter). Hinrich would be ideal to me, but he's not available.

they can all knock down the 3 and derek fisher is very used to throwing the ball into the post (Shaq) and has also deferred to an excellent scoring gaurd (Kobe). My vote is with derek fisher.

Would anyone like the idea of trading JJ for K Hinrich? Then looking for a 3 via free agency or possibly another trade.

Fisher seems to fit JVG's system out of all the guards. He has played with big man before...and is used to dumping the ball inside. Other guards aren't used to that. Fisher play fundamental basket which is what JVG wants. Fisher is a deadly shooter from downtown and can KILL TEAM if they leave him open. He's going to have plenty of wide open looks with McGRady and Yao drawing double team constantly.

So i think Fisher is the right choice....even though he's a little old but ain't THAT old (30 ain't that old)....he still have a lot of years left.

    Assuming TMac is a Rocket....

It's worth repeating....in his last 3 years as a Sonic, Brent Barry has shot 56% within the arc. That's not a typo...five-six %.

He wants a 4 year MLE $ deal. He's the same size as Gaines so my hope would be that he would mentor Gaines. Without Mobley, JJ will move to SG on offense. Having a combo guard like Barry allows Lue to get get minutes while JJ rests.

I don't see it happening but BB is my choice over Fisher and Hudson.

(I doubt JVG would raid his brother's team, but Rafer Alston is worth a look).

Jim Jackson will play the small foward position because T-mac don't like to play the 3 spot.

The more I think about it, the more I'm warming to the idea of bringing in Brent Barry. The fact that he'll be 33 heading into next season is worrisome, but if we give him 4 years at the MLE (a contract similar to the one the Grizz gave to Posey, I assume) he would be 36 entering his final year. Because his game doesn't rely on dribble penetration as much as it does for most guards, he could well be a decent starting option by the time he turns 36. The only other question is his defense, but if we get another defensive player to replace Cato we can live with some defensive mistakes on the perimeter. Even though he isn't a natural point, he's a very unselfish player and doesn't take shots he can't make. With with ball in Tracy and Yao's hands much of the time, Brent can do what he does best - spot up and prey on double teams.

I've converted. Bring in Brent Barry.
