Yep. Hun said that if they had known he wasn't a SS, there's no way they would have drafted him that high. Bad footwork, bad arm, just not a big league SS. He'll get reps in ST, infield drills & games both, but I'd be absolutely shocked if he plays SS on a regular basis. He's a solid utility guy now, and if he has the ability to play SS a bit it gives Garner that much more flexibility, but his only real position is 2B, and that's kinda spoken for.
Then Wandy it is. I'm hoping that Tejada keeps up his trade-me stance and Manny goes nuts with his trade demands so we can scoop up a prime SS. After that, sign a couple of 4 point something era pitchers and I'd be ready for Spring Training.
Biggio's 205 hits shy of 3000. Unless he suffers some sort of catastrophic injury, I'd expect him to be back in '07. Biggio really wore down in the second half last year, I'd look for Burke to get more starts at 2B and see that trend continue into '07.
Rumor has it that the O's are asking for a starting pitcher for Tejada, and the Astros are not about to give up one. The Red Sox have made an offer of Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Miggy. That's a pretty hefty offer. The only reason this trade has not happened is because they are in the same division with Baltimore. The Cubs reportedly have offered a package including Mark Prior. I don't think Tejada's price tag is going to drop anytime soon.
Nope, the only reason the trade hasn't happened is that Baltimore wants MORE from Boston. Two club sources said yesterday that the Orioles will not accept the Boston Red Sox's offer of All-Star outfielder Manny Ramirez, pitcher Matt Clement and cash for disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada. While it still is possible that Tejada will land in Boston, it is clear that Orioles officials are looking for the Red Sox to sweeten the deal. ... And there still is a possibility that the Orioles will wind up with Ramirez, though several obstacles remain, starting with the Orioles' asking price for Tejada. The Orioles apparently would prefer getting one of the Red Sox's young pitchers, Jon Lester or Jon Papelbon, but both are believed to be untouchable. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/...y?coll=bal-sports-baseball&ctrack=1&cset=true Manny/Clement/$$$/+top flight young starter is what they want. Any Astros deal not involving Berkman or Oswalt is a pipedream at this point, and the Stros are not trading Berkman or Oswalt. I think we can stop with the Lidge/Wandy/Burke crap. Even if the O's price comes down, Stros can't (won't) match what Boston is offering now.
Well, damn...I say we try to get Baltimore's exhorbitant demands to bite them in the ass, then. Start getting some serious talks to Boston for a trade to acquire Manny. Send them Jason Lane + some prospects (maybe including Taveras if they want...Wilson can play CF). I know that is likely a pipedream too, but it would be funny.
I keep reading O's want a big stick back, this Manny is still not a dead issue. I'd give'm AE's big bat and Lane's, too + Lidge or Backe for 'Miggy'.
wow the o's are raping the sox in that deal. too bad epstein is gone....hoooooooooooorrrrrible trade if it goes down like that and especially if boston is stupid enough to sweeten the deal.
