I wonder if the Astros have considered moving Lane as part of a deal to get Tejada...maybe Lane, AE and either Qualls or Lidge for Tejada and filler.....this way we have Burke and Wilson as the corner OFs.
You know, I wouldn't have a problem with the Astros moving Burke in a package to get Tejada, either. It's not "giving up" on Burke at all; in fact it's a vote of confidence to be traded for a guy like that. You have to give something to get something. I'd bet the Astros are at least "listening" to such offers.
present Purp and Justice arfe about to be on 610....if anyone is listening, please post a summary if they talk trades
Purpura just stated on the radio that they have talked to the Orioles a lot but there is nothing that is close. The main reason being is that the Orioles are asking for three major league players or major league ready players. Purp also mentioned that one major sticking point is that a player in the middle of a multi year deal can demand a trade.
Justice asked Purpura on if they are talking to Orioles about Tejada... - Orioles are looking for 3 major league caliber starters - he has spoken with the Orioles a lot about Tejada - nothing has happened that would push them over the edge - doesn't want to give up too much good pitching which is what the Orioles are looking for. Also, said that they are still in contact with Clemens and the Hendricks brothers. He said that Clemens has yet to clean out his locker yet....
I had no inclination that you wouldn't be here. You gladly ate crow last year and I knew you'd gladly eat it this year. You're good people, NJ. BTW, I know you don't believe me, but next week alright? I've had the flu since Friday and this is my first day back at work and quite possibly my only day this week.
Interesting contract for Wilson. If just for one year, that is a great price, and one of the few reasonable contracts we have seen so far this offseason. Now on the option years, does that mean the contract has a team option for each of the following three seasons, or does that mean if they pick up the team option after 2006, they are bound to pay him for the next 3 years, 24 mil? If so, then I hope they don't entertain the thought of picking up that option, but if it is a yearly thing, he might be worth 8 mil per for another year or so if he returns to form.
Doesn't sound like Tejada is going to happen from that report....although, Lane/Burke, AE and Qualls/Lidge are 3 major league everyday guys (assuming that would get it done).
u got it....I should be at the new office by next week so I will give you the new email as soon as I know what it is...and we can figure out a day I think thats a shot you have to take if you can land a guy like Tejada...you have to have confidence in your ability to keep the guy in an Astros uniform
I like the signing of Preston, and I definitely like Tim not giving up 3 of our guys for just Tejada. He mentioned how the Rangers are all offense and no pitching, and he'd hate to see that happen to the Astros. I may be one of the few people who like Tim's moves, because I like building through the farm system. My list: get another starting pitcher, give Burke a shot at shortstop in Spring training, and that's it.
i'd keep listening to tejada, because that price is gonna go down. but i like your ideas, here. if a good starter is available, go get him...and just SEE what burke can do at SS in the spring.
I'd give them Lidge, AE and Burke for Miguel. Lidge I'm afraid is going down the John Rocker road and now is the time to trade him. Tejada >>>>> AE. And Burke can be replaced - he's a utility player. Overall I think we'd be a better team and win more games than keeping the other 3 would. Tavaras Biggio Tejada Berkman Ensberg Wilson Lane Ausmus is a much improved line-up. Only problem is Lane won't see any good pitches.
mmm not a half bad signing, barring a trade, I don't see many viable options left out there in terms of bats. major contribute. so with this move are we essentially.... erm.... "disposing" of bagwell so berkman can play first and wilson OF?
It sounds like the Orioles are looking for more pitching then hitting. Maybe a trade involving Lidge, AE, and Wandy would get it done.
Didn't Burke play some SS in the minors but moved over to 2nd base because of Tommy Whiteman, who was playing quite well at the time (although I think he had a down year last season)? I thought he already had some experience playing there.
He did, briefly, and by all accounts he sucked. He sucked so bad that the people who scouted him & advocated drafting him #10 as a SS got fired.
