i think you people are all ****ed in the head. wilson leaves and he's suddenly reborn as babe ruth? what-the-****-ever.

the astros, one of the worst offensive teams in baseball, not to mention one of its most consistently successful, released him. clue should be calling you right about.... now.

jesus christ; b****ing must be like breathing for you people.

I honestly don't understand some of the logic in this thread. For one, why would a noncontending club have any interest in trading for Wilson? He's old, expensive, and it would have costed something to get him.

Also, I don't see how anybody could argue that Lane should have been cut instead of Wilson. Lane is cheaper, younger & whiter :)D for the Drayton-haters). Despite Lane's horrible season, he still had a better OBP% and almost exactly the same SLG% as Wilson.

Now Palmeiro, that's another story altogether. I don't understand why Houston management continues to throw money at players like Palmeiro & Vizcaino when you could get the exact same production from a guy making the league minimum.

the only reason they're b****ing is b/c the Cardinals picked him up. for some reason, just b/c the Cards are contenders it automatically makes Wilson a great player.

watch palmiero hit - he rarely strikes out (54Ks in his 411 career astro ABs), meaning he makes a lot of contact, which is exactly what you want from a PH.

wilson, as a point of comparison, struck out 93 times this year... in 390 ABs.

This is another Geoff Blum situation waiting to blow up in the Astros face. My prediction: PW will get the hit that eliminates the Astros from making the post season.

    You heard it here first.

ric you are completely wrong. preston wilson has an easily correctable flaw in his swing that st.louis is confident they can fix. stupid astros. this is richard hidalgo all over again. oh, wait....

I thought you would want a PH to be successful, not just make contact. Palmeiro's OBP% & SLG% are both under 0.300 this year. That is almost impossible to do in almost 100 AB.

    i thought this was a discussion of palmiero's worth, vis-a-vis wilson's.

PHs don't, as a general rule, go to the plate thinking walk; you want them to force the action by putting the ball in play.

yea, they really regret letting Geoff Blum go. jeez, you act like he was a superstar. he just got lucky in the WS. no one expects him to do much and he hasn't been doing much. i know this sounds surprising but players do hit homeruns against their former clubs all the time you know.

I think you may be overreacting by calling us ****ed in the head there.

wilson is a proven vet with the ability to turn it around. You forget that the astros have a hitting plague attached to this team, ie. huff

Wilson can easily turn it around and hit well the rest of the season and hes got an X factor as well, revenge.

I believe he is a good addition to the cards team and will help them down the road this season.

Yeah I know players hit homers against their former teams and I'm saying it's going to happen again with PW.

ok, but PW isn't gonna be the reason the Astros don't make the playoffs. even if he hits the game winning run in to eliminate us, he still sucks.

Wilson singled and stole second in his first AB as a Coardinal which simply demonstrates that the Astros are the worst organization in the history of modern professional sports.

    And Purpura's fat.

apparently not if you're still arguing preston ****ing wilson is worth even discussing.

would that be the same aubrey huff who's OPS is 100 points higher than wilson's? the same aubrey huff who's hit only 4 fewer homers than wilson despite nealy 300 fewer ABs? that aubrey huff?

hitting plague... good god. wilson's had a sub .800 OPS 4 of the past 5 years.

you're right; that must've been why he was hitting .212 with a homer and 13 RBIs since july - cause he can just turn it on whenever.

and i believe you're still ****ed in the head.

They should have sent him to the AL or a noncontending team. Instead they allowed him to go to a team that we are in direct competition with because our GM is a r****d.

Say what you will about PW but he still produced the second most RBIs on the team.
