I don't know. But if he is, there is your "other option".

Whether or not we agree with it, the Astros considered that the less attractive option. It seems Lane provides a similar impact to Wilson (in the opinion of some), and for millions of dollars less. Addidionally, Lane is still under club control. This of course has already been covered earlier in the thread.

Did Wilson get cut or sent to the minors?

Read this and man, Preston was a dissapointment, but Lane is a cheaper one...Although, I still think the Stros' are obligated for his salary...

DFA'd -- which is technically "sent to the minors" but in effect "cut". A veteran like PW (don't remember the exact number of years) does not have to accept an assignment to the minor leagues--and of course, PW would not (would you?). As such, the Astros have 10 days to release him or trade him. If he is released, they are on the hook for the remainder of his salary, payable IIRC immediately. So he was sent to the minors, but he was actually cut.

Anyone who can explain more precisely is welcome to correct me.

Lane didn't clear waivers, so they can't send him to the minors, either or else they lose him to whomever would claim him off waivers.

Lane couldn't be sent to the minors without clearing waivers. He didn't clear waivers and the Astros didn't want to lose him for nothing. Wilson has a big salary that the Astros are hoping gets picked up.

They could've let Nieve or Borkowski pitch. All they needed was 4 or 5 innings. Hirsh is a nice prospect, but they kind of painted themselves into a corner by calling him up. Not that it matters now, but he didn't do to well in his first MLB start.

He still struck out a lot. He rarely walked.
    No love loss.

So does ausmus & everett but there still on the team. They couldn't hit there way out of a paper bag. :)

ummm..those guys aren't being counted on to drive in runs in the middle of the order. everett is a gold glove caliber SS. ausmus is a good defensive catcher. defense up the middle is huge. teams traditionally give away some offense to have it. they asked wilson to be a power guy. he wasn't.

I'd pick up Shawn Green, if only to provoke the ire of Mel Gibson. :)

wilson wasn't far off the rbi pace he put up last season. looks like the astros just didn't do a good scouting report.

More like he morphed from a power threat into a singles hitting slappy.
