He inherited a team that was already one the worst in the NBA. He got a chance to start from scratch. Morey inherited a team with 2 broken down stars and little cap space. Hard to compare them at all so don't.
Morey is always too busy taking international vacations during the regular season! Always watching sporting events, basketball in particular, instead of scouting. Terrible GM!
He did do a great job with OKC. That is not arguable. However it is the draft so luck does play a part. Where did he get lucky? The only glaring example is Portland not taking KD. Other than the ping pong balls of course.
I give him credit. He did a great job with his 3 top 5 lottery picks . Wanna know how he got 3 top 5 lottery picks?
As I understand, Presti wasn't there to pick Durant though he surely would have. -Presti started as an intern with SA and then acquired his "genius" tag when he recommended the Spurs draft Parker, he was so highly regarded that Spurs fans wouldn't have cared much about letting RC Buford go. -wekko, I didn't know Green pulled a Bonzi, that would have been a major blunder.
Rockets (2nd round picks): Chandler Parsons Maarty Leunen Brad Newley Steve Novak Thunder (2nd round picks): Carl Landry Big Baby Glen Davis Reggie Jackson Craig Brackins Quincy Pondexter Walter Sharpe Magnum Rolle Trent Plaisted DeVon Hardin Sasha Kaun Yeah, total domination by Morey.
Presti is a good GM but his best pick (KD) fell into his lap, and if he had Oden instead of KD OKC wouldn't be anywhere this season. As others have already said he inherited a team that was in an amazing position to rebuild, he had all the capspace in the world+KD to work with. And even in the KD draft, he whiffed on Jeff Greene so its not like he's all spades. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good GM, but honestly DM has done an even better job IMHO, and its not just homerism talking. I mean, how badly do you screw it up when you get like KD and several other lottery picks to work with? If you look at the OKC roster its actually not that good, it has almost no depth and Perkins was basically their Ben Wallace signing, an overrated defensive player who got thrown too much money his way.
Where did you get those 2nd round picks for the Thunder? Several were traded/sold (including Carl Landry to Morey) and it includes people drafted in the 1st round.
WTF are you talking about? Landry was drafted by the Rockets and Davis was drafted by Celts. Reggie Jackson is the only 2nd player I know on that list, and he shot like 3pts and 30% from the field.
You have to have players to win, and Presti got it done. They had a plan and executed it and are preparing for the finals. End of Story.
