GM should of given Pressly a new contract before signing Hader. At least it will tell him it is to improve the team not a demotion. The Pressly change to me is GM bringing his own players and getting credit If Hader succeeded. I wish Pressly the very best because he plays the game based on love of team than $.
The Astros were close to getting Hader in a trade the year before they signed him as a free agent. Pressly knew that and dealt with it. Then Crane toyed with adding him at the onset of free agency and spoke to Hader’s agent. The Astros expected him to sign early in free agency. As free agency went on- Crane wanted Hader and Brown made it happen. There were no lengthy discussions with Pressly or Hader actually. What I was told is Hader said he would pitch in set up role or whatever. Pressly was supportive enough. Then Espada named Hader his closer and Pressly didn’t like how Espada was using him and ultimately asked for a trade. The Astros were surprised.
PRESS SLANDER IS NOT ALLOWED. Well, I suppose it is, if you’re an imbecile. Go cheer for the Luka-less Rangers. Love Press. Classy as it gets right there. Delivered this city a championship when we needed it most. Unhittable. Closer. Thank you.
This shows Brown and Espada's inexperience and Crane's probably-on-the-spectrum way of dealing with actual humans.
It is common in baseball- but it could have been handled better, especially by the manager who declared Hader his closer…. Hader said he would do 7-8th. Espada should have let Pressly close to start the year. Espada got better as the season progressed but he made too many mistakes dealing with people… Hinch and Baker made mistakes but handled players better
RP, closers, looooove designated roles. They are weird people. "Nope, I suck in the 8th" -- Luke Gregerson
