    I think a 3 year contract with a player option is very fair for both sides. If he reaches his "potential", the Rox will have to pony up big money to keep him in 2008.

    So, if this is only a 3-year deal, did we use the entire MLE?!? 3yrs/18M or 3yrs/30M? :confused:

    If it is 3 years, it may actually be to both team's advantage. If he reaches his potential and plays like a beast, the Rockets will own his Bird rights and will be able to give him a longer and bigger contract than any other team at that time. If he doesn't reach his potential, the team can get out from under his contract and move on.

    We've all seen that guys view those extra millions and extra year as a significant deal with all the guys re-signing with their teams this offseason.

    By the way, note that Marc Vandermeer is 4 minutes into his show (w/o Rich who is sick) and he's talked about the Texans and his speech he did in Liberty...no Rockets or Swift yet. Let's see how long it takes.

    If it's a 3-year deal, it would indicate to me that Swift is not happy with his current rep and will be playing for a big deal down the road. If he'd signed for 5, it may have meant he was comfortable in this league as a draft disappointment. So, I think it's a good sign of his state of mind. However, if he does become great in the 3 years, we'll already have McGrady earning $20 million and Yao something like $15 million. Even though we have his Bird Rights, will Les potentially risk luxury tax payments to re-sign him?
