I didn't mean to say he was as good as a decent PG running the break. But I don't think he sucked at all- he was pretty good, one of the better SF's- could you see Rice or TMo running a break? His dribbling was sometimes shady, but he pushed the ball very well and looked for the open man. He was still meshing with the Rockets, but I bet we will see him running a lot of breaks once he gets comfortable with the Grizz. Despite his shortcomings, he had the right instincts.

Push the ball, see what is there, pull back if you don't have the numbers, drive into traffic when you think you can draw the foul, be patient and wait for teammates, pull up only at certain times. Those are the instincts Steve needs to develop.

true, it's just that posey's even worse. essentially, i just think losing posey isn't going to hurt us on the fast break (not that we did it much) that much b/c his only job was filling a lane. while it's nice to have that, the running of the break is more important, which is where we'll need the improvement and where posey wouldn't help us anyway. hell, maybe piat can float out like reggie for 3's on the break.

Well, Dawson said he's looking for 2 more players. We all know that´s is a SF that can be Posey (I don't think that but would be great) and a point guard. It seems we won't make any trade.
I think this week a lot of dudes can be answered. Will we keep Posey? If not, this or next week could come other players. I hope that.

I really hope they haven't given up on Posey yet. A lot of people are mourning over his new contract, but it isn't really all that bad. It's just a little bit higher than Matt Harpering's contract isn't it? Besides, next year we will have Rice coming off the books, and in a few years Cato's contract will be done with as well. I think Posey showed a lot at the end of last year. He showed how he could hit the open three pointer, and play defense vs. anyone in the league.

    Steve / Mooch (or FA)
    Cat / Eric / Hawk
    Posey / Nachbar / Rice / Eric
Griffin / Mo Taylor / Badine
    Yao / Cato

Eric is a great shooter, but in no way is he a great defender.

The word in UTAh is that there are having problems getting FA's to freely come to UTAH. In fact Conner said we will simply have to go to teams who want to unload contracts. UTAH has 20mill to spend and endless space on their roster. If we so much do not like the MoT contract why don't we give him to UTAH? He is no Karl Malone but he would be their best PF right now. In fact their best low post player. Because they are so much under the cap they do not have to give anything back. With that space we sign Posey. How do we make up for the loss in our the PF depth? Sign Tmo and BAD. If necessary, play Cato some at PF, backing up EG. Or get Othella from the Knicks, they have a glut at PF.

Utah's situation is very interesting. No FAs want to go there. Like it was said, perhaps their best bet is to be a "dumping ground" for contracts or be the "third team" in a 3 team trade that would allow larger/ unbalanced trade contracts to go there much the way the Spurs were in the trade where they got Hedo and Mercer. Since they were under the cap they could take back more salary than they gave out and make a 3 team trade work for players whose salaries do not match.

Maybe there has been no takers because the Rockets are offering the Clutch City Special, Taylor, Norris and Rice for somebody good. Amazingly, no takers. I can't for the life of me understand why.

Utah's situation is intriguing. I get the impression that Kirilenko is untouchable. Too bad, I'd love to see him over here as our SF, even though his jumpshot isn't always there. We'd have a nice defensive front line, running a 2-3 zone.

Harpring may be obtainable, though if the front office won't pay for Posey, they probably wouldn't pay for him. Still he's a nice shooter, and would be a good 3rd-4th scoring option for us, though his scoring may be dependant on the P&R. I really don't think we have anything they'd want though, unless we're willing to take Harpring and Ostertag for Rice's expiring contract, which will never happen.

Still, I'd be salivating over the idea of getting Kirilenko if we could. Not that I like young Russian boys or anything. Though I do constantly hear about how long he is.

pike said damn near everything i'd want to hear out of a player. great signing and great articles. however, i too hope that we somehow manage to keep Posey or at the very least match his contract and turn around and trade him. i really hate the idea of having neither kenny thomas nor james posey to show for that deal.
