What planet are you people living on if you think Obama won that? I guess people just hear what they want to hear... Time and again, McCain hammered Obama, who was playing defense all night. Taxes, free trade, abortion, taxes some more, bucking your party, and perhaps the biggest devastating blow was the closing remarks. McCain: Honor, serving America, Country first, patriotism. Obama: a bumbling, poorly delivered flop across the finish line. Literally, all night, Obama was trying to run out the clock, diving straight into the same old canned, stump speech memorized lines -- you've heard them... 8 years, Exxon Mobil, wealthy Americans, blah blah blah. I mean, at one point, Obama was defending himself about hanging around with terrorists. That is not a sign that you are ON MESSAGE. That's a sign that you are IN A DITCH.
I honestly don't know that much about either sides issues. To me, they are both stereotypical politicians pandering for votes. I wish there could be a legitimate third party because to me both candidates are terrible. Neither candidate is inspiring. Like most Americans, I think I'm just gonna vote for whoever I like better. I'm pro-life, anti death penalty, pro gay marriage, anti-war but am a veteran of the iraq war, pro immigration, anti gun control, thinks both sides of the global warming issue have strong cases, and don't like government interference in my life - ie I don't decisions made for me by the govt. based on this, who should I vote for?
CNN Instapoll question: Obama's connection to William Ayers matters to you... Great Deal - 23 Somewhat - 14 Not Much - 11 Not At All - 51
I feel that McCain won the first part of the debate (20 minutes or so) and had Barack on the defensive, and had he probed further MAY have gotten him visibly flustered. But what came back to haunt him? Bill Ayers. As soon as Bill Ayers' name came up, it was McCain, not Obama who looked worse. That's the precise moment that the debate turned and Obama began to win, and it carried throughout the rest of the debate. It threw McCain off his groove because he was attacking and then immediately had to get defensive and just couldn't get back on his horse after that.
Clearly. CBS undecideds: 53-22 Obama CNN Independents: 57-31 Obama CNN overall: 58-31 Obama MediaCurves Independents: 60-30 Obama SurveyUSA California: 56-28 Obama SurveyUSA CA Independents: 55-29 Obama Hmmm. I guess people do hear just what they want to hear.
to a wingnut like you, anything that isn't faux news could be inserted here. keep your tinfoil hat on tight, and kiss the white house goodbye.
The very fact that Ayers (and Acorn) came up at all is horrible for Obama. It keeps the story in the news and probably introduces a new issue in some lesser-informed voters' minds. It gives both issues a national stage, which again, is bad for Obama. I disagree about the momentum shift. The only issue that I would put in Obama's favor was healthcare -- and that was close. The closing remarks were a stunning contrast in quality. McCain closed very strong. Most people probably turned off after 30 minutes anyway.
Did I seriously hear McCain say that we need to make soldiers into teachers, without them passing certification tests?!?! Any explanation?
I feel the exact same way. The debate took a huge swing in Obama's favor the moment Ayers came up. I give Obama full credit for that, he didn't back down, he took over.
What a weak argument. Drudge, AOL and Fox all had McCain winning the 'who won' poll. Big deal, these things are unscientific and are truly meaningless. Did you let RM95 log into your account again? Just a bad post.
Actually it probably closes the door on the Ayers issue. He confronted him, Obama answered, and independents clearly didn't like McCain bringing it up. If McCain continues to bring it up he's only shooting himself in the foot. It's not a winning issue for him with the people he needs most.
