That's pretty much how I saw it as well. I thought the last word on the attacks came when Obama mentioned that McCain's tactics of all Ayers all the time said more about his campaign than it ever did about Obama.

Following that Obama brought the conversation around to the issues yet again. It was a great tactic. He defended, but still focused on the issues. Obama had by far the best debate he's had.

I agree - for someone behind, they have to go on the attack. I thought McCain did a pretty good job of it. Against Bush, Kerry, or Gore, I think it would have really rattled them and gotten them off message. But Obama really took it in stride pretty well.

I think the polls will show this one much closer than the previous ones. But nothing really game-changing in there.

CNN is talking about McCain's reactions that I mentioned several times in this thread.

    Time -
    Obama 50% defining his issues
    McCain 100% attack
    Obama 50% refuting McCain's attacks

    Bob Schieffer 100% excellent job.

Another huge blow for McCain was when he asked about how much of a fine Joe the plumber would have to pay.

Obama took him to school about his health care policy, and the answer for the fine was zero.

McCain went for knockout punch in his strongest performance. Yet, Obama countered with his best performance too.

No game changing performance for McCain which he needed.

All Obama had to do was counter these attacks and let himself be better known. He did while talking just as much about what he will do as a president.

    Mission accomplished.

Do we really need another President whose decisions are heavily influenced by emotion?

So do you think McCain's improved performance will get enough undecided voters for him to win the electoral votes needed?

    Probably not.

I'm not sure I believe there is truly such a thing as an "undecided voter" at this point.

McCain did better, but I don't think he won, I think it was that he did so badly in the first two that there was a sigh of relief on him being competent in this one.

I think his attacks failed, just like the ads have in the last few weeks.....

He should have attacked more on the differences in cutting spending versus raising it....

I see it as a tie, but solidifies the Presidency for Obama.

I think this was definitely McCain's strongest debate especially the first half and Obama's weakest debate. But Obama finished strong. And there were no game changing moments.
