Hardly. Most of us want him to act the part of a decent and sane human being. This was one tiny step.

That was a good address by Trump, and the first time he's actually sounded "presidential". While it definitely contained some Bannon-isms...I could also tell that people like Ivanka had influence in the content and tone of the speech. I did have some gripes with the address (for instance, using the Navy SEAL's widow as a prop was pretty distasteful).

Anyway, I'm sure that Trump will return to his usual blowhard self soon...probably tomorrow via Twitter.

I think saying the widow of Ryan Owens was used as a political prop is a very cynical talking point of the far left. It's an attempt to slow the momentum of an excellent speech and reeks of desperation and bitterness.

lol, you know I was concerned about that at first. I thought he would flip flop on his promises he made while campaigning. Hillary is against every single value I have and has an even bigger history of shady activity so the only choice I had was to vote for Trump. So far he has done everything he has promised which lines up just fine with my values.

More importantly, how did the teleprompter do... inquiring minds want to know?

I'm glad the president can read from a teleprompter.

No no no, now that's a good thing! See, in 2017, we *celebrate* a good speech from a president. I know it's confusing, but Fox News can explain it to you.

On a more serious note, I have the tiny sliver of hope that goes like this: Trump witnesses, really for the first time, positive feedback as POTUS. And maybe just maybe says "hey, I could actually be well liked if I act like a president, try to unite people, and listen more to Ivanka and a little less to that crusty bitter oversized marmot who is always saying nasty things in my ear."

I'm not saying I'm optimistic, but the dude does crave praise.

Not a Trump fan but this was a step in the right direction. Staring down the teleprompter was creepy but overall he seemed more Presidential, lets hope this is a new start.

I'm glad you were such a model of moderation and providing the benefit of the doubt from 2008 to 2016. It's good that you're consistent and support your presidents.

I thought it was a pretty good speech. MUCH better than his bizarre inauguration speech. It gives me a little more hope that we can actually survive the next 2 to 4 years.

Of course my hopes will probably be dashed later on today when he inevitably tweets about how tremendous his TV ratings were for the speech.

It would be great if this were the norm for the future. We need this type of tone and not him trying to one up haters on Twitter.

Most people like to see other people happy and succeed. When it's good for them, it's usually good for us too. Good lesson to learn at some point in your life.

I don't understand this attitude that it was a passable speech and now maybe there's hope. Have you not been paying attention the last 18 months? I swear, it's the same as Trump latching on to whatever the last thing he heard was: because he read a bunch of lies and dog whistles from a screen instead of spouting them off the top of his head, everything the guy's been saying since the campaign starts to become a fuzzy memory, along with his disastrous appointments and executive orders.

If we had a competent, likable chaos agent as president, we'd be proper ****ed.

Well, it was probably the best speech Trump has given... certainly since becoming the President. It wasn't without faults. Trying to paint immigrants in a bad light was the worst. The lies were fewer than normal for a Trump speech and can only be considered par for the course at this point.

I would absolutely support his idea of an infrastructure bill.

It actually isn't his idea since it has been proposed by both Democrats that ran for President, and Obama before them, but I'll support Trump trying to get it done, and hope it will be more acceptable to congress since it comes from their own party member.
