This is the kind of thing George W Bush would goof up during a speech or press conference. Embarrassing, but mostly inconsequential.

With Trump, it's happening during the actual sausage making.

Indeed. It's mildly depressing when you've forgotten more geography (which would likely describe both of us) than the alleged POTUS has knowledge of, the fellow who sometimes resides in the White House. I think it's important that the "Leader of the Free World" at least know where the allies of said global power are located on a map. It's sort of useful, one would think.

 

What I wonder is, how did Trump screw that up? Since he probably knows little or nothing about either the Baltics or the Balkans, how did he "mis-Google" the info? Or did Balkans float into his brain from something he heard long ago and that's what fell out of his mouth?

European leaders looking at each other around the table:

"What is he talking about? Do you know what he's----oh, dear God, he's talking about the 'Balkans'. (hand over mouth, shaking head) Do we tell him or do we play along?"
