Let's put this in perspective. We have been in Iraq roughly double the amount of time it took us to defeat the Nazis and the rest of the Axis powers. DOUBLE. In that time, we have captured Saddam Hussein...and little else. We have not stabilized the new government. It cannot be stabilized. There will be a power grab and likely a very bloody civil war. I cannot fathom what we could accomplish that we were unable to do in 7 years. How long did you envision us being actively engaged in Iraq?
I wasn't commenting on how long we should be in Iraq. I was commenting on whether it is wise to announce(make public) when you plan to give up. People always talk about how corrupt and ****ty the Karzai is, but of course he is going to make deals with the other side if he knows we are about to leave(and thus lose). Obama could of had this date set in his mind and just not announced it publicly. Everything that happened in Iraq after he announced our date to leave was a waste of life since their was no way to win after that.
We had been losing the war before Obama came. I doesn't mean we had lost. We hadn't lost til Obama made that announcement.
