It was a speech, and speeches aren't suppose to change the world, they are suppose to be a first step and a precursor for more to come.

People complain that it was all talk - give me a break, the guy has been in office for all of 5 months at most and has to deal with two wars, the worst economy of most everyone's lifetime, healthcare, and the middle east.

It's find to be critical, but some of the stuff is just a joke. C'mon Bigtexx and basso, can't you do better?

Or are you here just to get a high off of riling up the liberals? Because that's what i see, you are doing what I use to do. Cat having fun playing with mice? Maybe it's easy, maybe it's fun, but does it never get dull?

This is not a continuation of anything except some right wing blowhard's distortion of the speech Obama gave. I mean, for Christ's sake, here is the first paragraph of the author's excretion...

Last night in Cairo Egypt, our president groveled at the feet of Islam. Not only did he apologize to Islam for 9-11, but for just about every event ever in American history.

Yesterday, in Cairo, Egypt, our president addressed people around the world, and gave particular emphasis to people who are Muslims. Not only did he not "apologize to Islam for 9-11," he called out the extremists in Islam and said that we would stop at nothing to hunt them down.

There was not a single apology, merely a statement of the facts from the past and a description of how our actions will be in the future.

You wingnuts are really losing your marbles.

It officially belongs to the people of the United States. If you go visit various Presidential Libraries, these kind of gifts usually end up in them. There are some pretty over the type gifts in some of them.

so how big is the difference between apologetic and "too" apologetic?

how do you measure apologies? if we use giddyup's standards, the happyness of the party being apologized to is directly proportional to the apology.. so judding by hamas' reaction, (you get the point)

Krauthammer is usually full of crap, and even he speaks well, you aren't saying anything at all. I can't see the video from this computer so I have no ideas what points he was trying to make.

Jon Stewart speaks better, which is why you and Dr. Strangelove are out of touch.

With this kind of attitude it would be impossible to move foward, you can't bring change without challenging yourself and others....

Not really. I'm encouraging basso to do more than copy and paste, and actually add his own take, or comments.

That was a fantastic, historic, speech. I think this will be a landmark event that will be seen as the beginning of a new time in world history, something like the impact of his race speech in the US. In a way the speech was just truth and common sense, but he said the things that needed to be said, and the speech worked on many, many, levels. It’s very impotent to remember, however, that it was just a bold and brave first step on a journey of a thousand steps, and to reach the destination those of us who share his vision are going to have to get involved and work to make it happen. In particular we need to be aware of the need to keep communicating the message, and to keep communicating it on many levels. There is a group that will never be receptive, of course, the Bin Ladens and the Bassos of the world, and they will need to tracked and managed, but moderates and even moderate conservatives will come around to this in time and if it’s communicated properly, because it is truly a vision that is good for everyone. It is only those who wish to exploit others for their own gain that will not like it, like the Bin Ladens and Bassos.

There are many, many, parts of this that could be discussed, but I’ll start with the safety issue. There is no question that this speech will make the world a much safer place in the medium and long term. He addressed valid grievances and he started to build bridges based on the noble dreams of all men and women, and in response hope is springing anew. We need to be very aware, however, that in the short term this could heighten the chance of an act of terrorism. International and domestic extremists alike will be in panic mode right now because they will see their power base, and their ability to control and manipulate people, being yanked out from beneath their feet. In the battle for hearts and minds this was a major victory on a global scale for Obama, and the extremists of the world are very likely to try to attack back to try to derail the momentum Obama is gaining. This will not be a smooth road nor will it be a short journey, and it will be very important for all of us to pay attention and understand what’s happening in the big picture so that we can communicate to, and reassure, those who will get discouraged by some of the struggles and setbacks that will come. This is just the beginning of the journey, and this isn’t Obama’s movement. Ultimately it’s our movement and our responsibility. Obama has stepped up to lead, but he can’t make anything happen without the support and hard work of like minded people from all over the world. He’s doing his part, and now it’s our turn to do ours.

    Give me a break.

    Reality check.

I admire what Obama is trying to do, no doubt, who wants to have "enemies" everywhere, or people who don't like you, not me. But give me a break.

Funny that you used him to jeer at our left-leaning CF members...
did you that know Krauthammer is socially and fiscally leftist, and only 'conservative' on foreign policy? A quick glance at his Wikipedia page reveals:

    1. Contributor to the New Republic magazine ("liberal social and social democratic economic policies, while taking a hawkish viewpoint on foreign policy, especially in its support for Israel")

    2. Speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale (Democrat)

    3. Supporter of legalized abortion

    4. Opponent of the death penalty

    5. An intelligent design critic and pro-evolution

    6. A supporter of embryonic stem cell research

    7. Supports radically higher energy taxes to induce conservation

(#7 should be relevant for you considering your background in the energy industry? Maybe that's Trader Jorge)
