I'm watching Steven Miller's ugly mug on TV right now answering questions about the policy. Can I say that trotting out Miller for the defense is a terrible idea? He already has a rep as an alt-right white nationalist. He also has a combative personality and an arrogant demeanor. He is not the guy that will make it go down easier.
I guess Steve Bannon was too busy pulling the wings off flies to appear. Seriously, is Miller the public face of Bannon?
The national government hasn't historically enforced immigration law with much seriousness as it is so you'll have to be more specific in what ways cities limit their cooperation.
I dunno about this. I don't really have a problem with decreasing immigration overall and I have less problem with increasing the percentage of skilled immigrants that come into the country every year. There's no "right" for people to be allowed to immigrate here, so there's no problem with it on those grounds. There's no country in the world that has more immigrants flock into their borders every year than the US and you could cut that number in half and it would still be true.....so it's not like the US is stingy when it comes to immigration.
I prefer we focus more on skills and education than trying to reduce immigratation. The nativist will still have to have skills to get jobs if they reduce "competition".
Yes, and a country that has 1 person in it would instantly be first on the list if they accepted even one migrant....that's why I'm not all that interested in charts that are heavily skewed by population size. The facts still are that the US ends up with more immigrants coming into the country per year than any other and it's not close at all. As such, cutting down on those numbers for a while wouldn't be the end of the world especially if the policy led to more skilled immigrants and less unskilled immigrants.
This is a common sense bill and it SHOULD have bipartisan support. However, there are so many idiots determined to fight the Trump administration tooth and nail on every issue, no matter how wrong they are. Trump could reveal a free energy source or a cure for cancer and he would still run into opposition from the Democrats and the GOP establishment.
What is common sense about this? Reducing immigration doesn't magically make Americans more hirable. What is the goal of this in your eyes?
Questions to ponder... under Trump's new legal immigration limits, would Trump's grandfather been allowed in? Would the first lady?
It's common sense for a nation to only accept immigrants that are of benefit to itself. Immigrants that are more educated and more financially stable are less prone to committing crimes. Liberals love to point to countries like Canada and Australia when it comes to healthcare comparisons. What about their points-based immigration systems that place an emphasis on "what can the immigrant bring to the table for consideration?" At this point in time, the United States simply doesn't need large numbers of unskilled immigrants.
As Steve Bannon would tell you, a country is more than an economy; it's a civic society. We might be a happier, more fulfilled society with more immigrants. Probably our more recently naturalized citizens would be happier if they could have more of their family come and be with them, whether they have skills or not.
Only when those immigrants are largely skilled and legal citizens. Unskilled and illegal immigrants do a lot more harm than good overall so they should be limited in number.
