I have a huge mancrush on Jacoby Jones. He's been an absolute stud so far in preseason, lets hope he continues like this when it counts. Schaub is the real deal. He's not going to win an MVP, but he won't hurt you and will make some plays. Our Oline looked good against a very fast and physical Dallas team. Our running game is looking good. Green looks like he still has alot in the tank and I like Dayne as the backup. Our Defense is ok, but we still need more from our DL. Mario did get the cheapy, but Romo had all kinds of time to throw. Dunta is a stud and is looking like a pro bowler. We finally have atheletes on our team and what a difference that makes. We have some depth now on our D and we should be very excited about this season and the seasons to come. I don't think we'll win our division or anything, but I expect us to be in every game and just miss out on the playoffs or possible squeak in as a wild card.
i love this win, even if its preseason now my wife gets to wear her texans jersey to work and show it off to the lone cowgirls fan there. from what she tells me, this guy has cowboys galore on his desk, wears a cowboys shirt every other day and just happened to say that the texans where going to get whooped. I cant stand dallas...
I'm hammered, and I notice the morning after I post drunk that I post just the most obvious things. I'm an idiot
best response comment from that: Doesn't mean Texans and Cowboys are at the same level but puts it in perspective how overly smug and conceited Cowboys fans can be (not that Houston fans would be any better if their team starts winning) but, if it was so insignificant a game that writeup should NOT have gotten posted at all. Treat it like the Cowboys versus the Browns or whatever. The fact it was even written up shows there's some emotion and meaning there...Its just naturally gonna happen when ANY contest between rivals, even if its just a casual flag football game with no score, there's gonna be some fans of either side talking it up.
I really wish we did play Dallas every year as a regular season game, that would be awesome. As for tonight! WHOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It really made my night!
I was at the game last nite, and I can tell you nothing irritates me more than Cowboy fans. Their incessant drivel about superbowl championships is ridiculous. They are obnoxious. It makes beating them even in a meaningless preseason game so sweet.
Not-so-impressive outing shows Cowboys still have work to do 03:42 AM CDT on Sunday, August 26, 2007 By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News tarcher@dallasnews.com HOUSTON – While the city of Houston seemed to revel in winning the Governor's Cup with the Texans' 28-16 win, the Cowboys have bigger things to worry about than losing a silly trophy. If the third preseason game is supposed to be some sort of regular-season dress rehearsal, the Cowboys showed they needed a lot more work before the games begin for real with a performance that was as in sync as a fourth-grade violin concerto. As good as they looked against Indianapolis and Denver to open the Wade Phillips era, they were as bad Saturday. Phillips had worries entering the game, among them the loud Reliant Stadium crowd, the intensity of the Texans and playing without starting cornerback Terence Newman, who stayed in Dallas because of a case of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The crowd noise led to confusion on the offensive line, the Texans stuffed the Cowboys' running game all night and the cornerback situation looked leaky at best. "They hit us in the mouth, and we never reacted," nose tackle Jason Ferguson said. "It's something we needed. We definitely needed somebody to hit us in the mouth and wake us up." The first-team defense did not allow a touchdown in its first two preseason games. It allowed three in the first half against the Texans. The Cowboys missed far too many tackles, the corners allowed far too much space and the front seven generated far too little pressure on quarterback Matt Schaub, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 109 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Texans ran for 142 yards as the Dallas run defense looked vulnerable for the first time in the preseason. Ahman Green, the Texans' biggest free-agent pickup of the off-season, carried eight times for 65 yards, including a 46-yarder that came after Aaron Glenn and Roy Williams missed tackles. Two plays later, Andre Johnson scored on a 6-yard pass for a 14-0 lead. "They know," Phillips said. "I used to accuse my dad of losing preseason games sometimes because it would make them bear down and realize, 'Hey, we're not in the Super Bowl. We're not this until we get some things better.' Sometimes losing in the preseason helps you mentally get back to work and say, 'Hey, we got to get this thing accomplished.' " It wasn't just an off night for the defense. The offensive line, which needs to be a strength for the Cowboys to succeed, committed three penalties and had an unexpected shotgun snap that led to the second sack of Tony Romo to close the first half. That came after Romo dropped a perfect shotgun snap in the first quarter. There were moments of individual success: Terrell Owens caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Romo in the second quarter, combining to beat a Houston blitz. Jason Witten caught an 18-yard touchdown pass on the first series of the second quarter. Sam Hurd caught four passes for 68 yards. But the running game was limited to 57 yards on 21 carries. "The best thing is the mistakes we made are correctable mistakes," said Romo, who completed 14 of 22 passes for 197 yards with two touchdowns and an interception on a badly underthrown deep ball to Owens to end his night. "It's good that it happens now rather than a month from now." The special teams allowed a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown by Jacoby Jones just 1:59 into the game, and Martin Gramatica hurt his roster chances by pushing a point-after attempt wide and skulling a kickoff. Other than that, it was a swell night inside Reliant Stadium. "We know we have a good team," Owens said, "It's just going to require a little more work. One game doesn't make our season by any means, nor should it make their season. We need some work." http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcon...boys/stories/082607dnspocowlede.34324a7.html#
Texans looked better than they have all preseason and the Cowboys looked worse. It was a fun game to watch. Jacoby looks like the real deal. Mario finally got some stats. I enjoyed it.
mario's motor was humming, that was great to see.. our linebackers/secondary are some of the best tacklers.. i swear.. those guys are lockdown open field tacklers.. jones is a stud, plain and simple, they got a solid #2.. i'm getting really excited about this year.. each game is more and more progress..
Thought you folks would enjoy this little quote from Jean-Jacques Taylor's column in today's Dallas Morning News: The Cowboys played so well in their first two games that expectations zoomed out of control. After all, they clobbered the Super Bowl champion Colts and beat the Broncos so bad they whined about the Cowboys breaking some secret preseason code about game-planning for opponents. That said, you probably should have been prepared for the beating Dallas received from the Texans, a team still trying to forge an identity as it enters its sixth NFL season. We all know Houstonians have an inferiority complex when it comes to Dallas, in part, because football reigns in Texas and the Cowboys have five championships, while Houston – the Oilers or Texans – has never even played in a Super Bowl. "We knew they were going to be aggressive," said Marcus Spears, "because of the whole Houston-Dallas thing." There's no team Houston would rather beat than Dallas. That's why there was playoff-type intensity in Reliant Stadium. No joke. Is there any other rational explanation for why 70,512 – the largest preseason crowd in the history of professional football in Houston – watched the game? Does the Governor's Cup really mean that much? Guess so. You gotta love those Cowboys and their Cowsheep fans. They take the process of denial to a whole new level...
Wow, that article is such trash.. i've never seen a Houston sports writer literally talk sh*t about Dallas.. they may talk about their teams in an analytical way.. criticize their play.. but just dogging them like on a playground? come on. OH.. and get this.. so I'm in Beaumont this weekend, and for some reason Beaumont gets the Dallas Cowboys network feed for the game last night.. so I had to listen to their r****ded play-by-play guys who did nothing but WHINE about illegal hits, cheap shots, missed calls, etc all game long.. and then during the commercial breaks i have to put up with these stupid jerry jones themed commercials back to back.. my god.. gag me with a spoon..
I love jacoby, man. he looks legit. I fell out of my chair when the return was made, I just didnt think he could take it to the house again! Between him and Mathis (if Jerome can stay healthy) we have one of th best special teams in the league. I screamed when mario got the tackle and the sack in succession (1- i know, thats kinda sad, but it was good to see some results 2- had romo not been butterfingers all over again, mario may not have gotten that sack). nevertheless, it was a preseason game, and im pretty sure Dallas doesn't give dam about the governors cup. I mean lets look if we were in their shoes. Its kinda like being the senior when all of a sudden the freshman over here is looking to beat ypu. The you prolly wouldnt worry too much. I was very happy with the game (schaub looked great as well), but we got to work on a lot of things. we still have yet to have a winning season. All that said, Duck Fallas. I hate that '****y' so much.
Dallas papers and fans can talk all they want about how this wasn't a game they were looking towards, etc...but judging by the overexaggerated gesticulating of their players after even the slightest good play by their team early on tells me they were taking this game at least as seriously as the Texans players were. Also, I know everyone is excited about Mario showing up, Jacoby, Schaub, etc. But to me, the most exciting thing about this game was how Dunta played. That guy looks poised to turn into the total package shutdown corner we thought he could be. We all knew he could tackle and really be a force in run support (I don't know why any teams bother to call run plays outside where he is playing anymore...he won't let them get around the corner) but he REALLy looked good in coverage against an excellent receiver in TO last night as well. If he can shut down half the field like he looks, then the safeties can focus on helping Fletcher or Faggins or whoever it is on the other side. Run blocking was excellent last night as well. That really made me feel confident about this team. If we can be a consistent run threat, that will make Schaub that much more effective.
It's so exciting that we finally have a REAL NFL football team, not a bunch of pop warner scrubs with a joke of a QB. We have very solid QB, solid run game, explosive WRs a, solid o-line. Even if we don't get after the QB enough, it appears as though we will have one of the best rush defenses in football, stopping the run is how you win games, our secondary played very well despite being the wekness of the team. Mathis when healthy is the best kick returner in football and now Jacoby Jones to go with him on punts is unstoppable. The AFC is tough, we will be in a battle with the Jets, Bengals/Ravens and Broncos for 2 wildcard spots. We have a pretty easy schedule, I see us going 10-6, I still don't know if 10-6 gets you in in this strong AFC...
I had to watch it too, the damn jerry jones papa johns ad....and all the Cowboys paraphernalia. Gotta love the game though. COWBOY FANS will play this one down as a pointless presseason game now that they got whooped. But earlier this week they were doing nothing but talking **** about how they were going to kill the Texans.
