I think I believe him. Why would he lie about buying some meth out of curiosity and getting a massage. Nothing wrong with that. He even had his family by his side, everything must be fine. Sounds like another libpig attack on nothing

It's interesting to see the party of "family values" and homophobic rhetoric become the party of morally corruption and homosexual predators.

All along these guys warned us about the homosexual agenda. How ironic it is.

These guys are making Clinton look like a choir boy....then again.

    Ousted evangelist confesses to followers

By COLLEEN SLEVIN, Associated Press Writer
    5 minutes ago

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Less than 24 hours after he was fired from the pulpit of the evangelical megachurch he founded, the Rev. Ted Haggard confessed to his followers Sunday that he was guilty of sexual immorality.

In a letter that was read to the congregation of the New Life Church by another clergyman, Haggard apologized for his acts and requested forgiveness.

"I am so sorry for the circumstances that have caused shame and embarrassment for all of you," he said, adding that he had confused the situation by giving inconsistent remarks to reporters denying the scandal.

"The fact is I am guilty of sexual immorality. And I take responsibility for the entire problem. I am a deceiver and a liar. There's a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life," he said.

Haggard resigned last week as president of the National Association of Evangelicals, where he held sway in Washington and condemned homosexuality, after a man claimed to have had drug-fueled homosexual trysts with him. Haggard also placed himself on administrative leave from the New Life Church, which has 14,000 members, but its independent Overseer Board fired him on Saturday.

In his letter, Haggard said "the accusations made against me are not all true but enough of them are that I was appropriately removed from his church leadership position."

He did not give details on which accusations were true.

The letter was read to the church by the Rev. Larry Stockstill, senior pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center in Baker, La., and a member of the board that fired Haggard.

Before the letter was read, members of the congregation sang and cheered during their Sunday, singing refrain after refrain of "I will bless the lord at all times."

Youngsters were sent out of the room before elders began speaking about the church crisis.

"Worshippers are always challenged by crisis. And when tragedy and crisis strikes it is at that moment that you truly decide if you are a worshipper of the most high god. And today as the worship pastor of this church I am very proud of you," said the Rev. Ross Parsley, who has replaced Haggard.

"I am so grateful for the government system in place here at this church. ... The speed with which things were dealt with this week has been a testimony to the godliness, to the integrity and authority of the overseers of the board of this church," he said.

Haggard, 50, had acknowledged on Friday that he paid Mike Jones of Denver for a massage and for methamphetamine, but said he did not have sex with him and did not take the drug.

The Overseer Board, made up clergy from various churches, used stronger language.

"Our investigation and Pastor Haggard's public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct," the board said in a statement.

The NEA, representing 30 million evangelicals, named the Rev. Leith Anderson, senior pastor of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minn., as its interim president.

Jones said news of Haggard's dismissal saddened him.

"I feel really bad for his wife and family and his congregation. I know it's a sad day for them, too," Jones said. "I just hope the family has peace and can come to terms with things. I hope they can continue with a happy life."

Haggard's situation is a disappointment to Christian conservatives, whom President Bush and other Republicans are courting heavily in the run-up to Tuesday's election.

Many were already disheartened with the president and the Republican-controlled Congress over their failure to deliver big gains on social issues even before the congressional page scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record).

Haggard, who had been president of the evangelical association since 2003, has participated in conference calls with White House staffers and lobbied Congress last year on Supreme Court nominees.

Haggard founded New Life in the mid-1980s and held its first services in the basement of his Colorado Springs home.

Jones, who said he is gay, said he was upset when he discovered who Haggard was and found out that New Life had publicly opposed same-sex marriage — a key issue in Colorado, with a pair of issues on Tuesday's ballot.

Maybe it's time people revaluate their stance on homosexuality and realize that it's just part of our society and it's time to accept it.

Nah. If there's one thing conservative Christians are good at, it's ignoring anything that could possibly be detrimental to their rock-solid stances on "morality" -- even if it's comprimised by their own leaders time and time again.

Similar thing happened at one of my old churches in Katy. The scandal gets swept under the rug, never to be spoken of again.

And...the church continues to lambast homosexuality.

How could Reverand Haggard resist this? Who could blame him when he did not?

Be careful for what you ask ...

From Ted Haggard’s sermon last week four days before accusations of his gay affair became public: “Heavenly Father give us grace and mercy, help us this next week and a half as we go into national elections and Lord we pray for our country. Father we pray lies would be exposed and deception exposed. Father we pray that wisdom would come upon our electorate …”

    God's Will. Good Times.

It appears that Pastor Ted has adopted the Clintonian definition of sex: Blow jobs, given and received, do not count.

Fired evangelist slams gays in new movie
    By CHRISTY LEMIRE
    AP MOVIE WRITER

LOS ANGELES -- The Rev. Ted Haggard has been fired amid allegations of gay sex and drug use, but the evangelical leader can still be seen at the height of his powers - preaching to thousands and condemning homosexuality - in the documentary "Jesus Camp."

In one scene of the film, which follows a group of children as they develop evangelical Christian beliefs, directors Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady visit Haggard's 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. He tells the vast audience, "We don't have to debate about what we should think about homosexual activity. It's written in the Bible."

Then Haggard looks into the camera and says kiddingly: "I think I know what you did last night," drawing laughs from the crowd. "If you send me a thousand dollars, I won't tell your wife."

Later, another joke for the filmmakers: "If you use any of this, I'll sue you."

The married, 50-year-old father of five admitted in a letter read Sunday to his followers that he was "guilty of sexual immorality." He has yet to address specific claims by a male escort that Haggard paid him for sex over the past three years.

Haggard has acknowledged that he paid Mike Jones of Denver for a massage and for methamphetamine, but said he didn't have sex with Jones and didn't take the drug. He resigned last week as president of the National Association of Evangelicals, which represents 30 million people, and was removed Saturday as leader of his own church.

"Jesus Camp" is playing in several cities and expands to more on Friday and throughout the year. Ewing and Grady said that when they shot footage for the film at the New Life Church in October 2005, they were struck by how enraptured Haggard's followers looked.

"Pastor Ted, they were so proud of him. They thought he was hip, young, he didn't have that stodgy James Dobson feel," Ewing said Monday, referring to the Focus on the Family founder. "They all really adored him, that's the first thing I thought - those people, those faces, they hung and took notes on every word he said - I can't imagine what those people must be feeling."

Haggard has disputed the way he's portrayed in "Jesus Camp," saying on his Web site (in a posting that since has been removed) that the filmmakers shot for hours at his church and only used the parts in which he was playing with negative stereotypes.

"You can expect to learn as much about the Catholic Church from 'Nacho Libre' as you can learn about evangelicalism from 'Jesus Camp,'" he wrote. Ewing and Grady say Haggard is the only one who has complained about the way he was depicted in the film.

"Jesus Camp" also shows Haggard speaking to an aspiring young preacher named Levi, asking him whether people listen to him because he's a kid or because he has something to say. His advice: "Use your cute-kid thing until you're 30, and by then you'll have good content."

Grady said that when she first heard about the accusations against Haggard, "I was shocked but I was not surprised in any way because he did come across as somewhat of a hypocrite even in our movie - in a smaller way, of course. He was so cynical in that exchange with that child in our movie, it was odd and it popped out."

Haggard also leads the audience in praying for President Bush to select a Supreme Court nominee who supports their beliefs (it would end up becoming Samuel Alito) and later brags about the rapid expansion of evangelicalism.

"It's got enough growth to essentially sway every election," Haggard says with a smile. "If the evangelicals vote, they determine the election."

Any bets Dobson will take a shower with Haggard and let him know what is what?

Any bets Haggard will get his gay cured?

Dobson to Aid in Counseling Haggard
    Monday, November 06, 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Focus on the Family founder James Dobson will be one of the people overseeing counseling for the Rev. Ted Haggard, the evangelical pastor who was fired amid allegations of gay sex and drug use, a senior official of Dobson's organization said Monday.

The counseling process, called restoration, could take years, said H.B. London, vice president for church and clergy at Focus on the Family, a Colorado Springs-based ministry.

"I think it may be more in helping to set the requirements of the restoration, set the ground rules,"London told The Associated Press.

Haggard was forced out as senior pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs on Saturday after a former male escort alleged they had sex repeatedly and that Haggard sometimes was on methamphetamines during their trysts.

In a statement read at the church Sunday, Haggard confessed to unspecified"sexual immorality,"accepted responsibility for his actions and asked forgiveness.

Dobson will join pastor Jack Hayford of The Church on the Way in Van Nuys, Calif. and the pastor Tommy Barnett of First Assembly of God in Phoenix in overseeing Haggard, according to a letter from Haggard read at New Life services on Sunday.

"Those men will perform a thorough analysis of my mental, spiritual, emotional and physical life. They will guide me through a program with the goal of healing and restoration for my life, my marriage and my family,"Haggard wrote.

Hayford's spokesman said he was not available for comment Monday. Barnett did not immediately return a call.

    i haven't seen this yet..have you??

i have some close friends who saw it...Christians...who said it was the most depressing and offensive thing they've ever seen....not because it was portrayed unfairly, but because of what people were saying/doing in the name of Christ.

The far right religious zealots are the Christianities equivalent to the Muslim religous zealots, IMO.

The only difference is that a lot of them are much better off than the guys living in the cave and have too much lo lose to act on some of their narrow minded opinions against gays etc...

It is these types of people that taint all of religion, imho.

i don't even know what evangelical means anymore. i would call myself evangelical under my understanding of what it means. but i doubt very seriously it would fit your definition of what it means.
