You know, while I was watching it, I got the feeling that I had seen almost all of the footage before. This thread should be banished from Middle Earth....NOW!!!!

It's a classic. Right up there w/ Blow and Fear and Loathing as the best drug movies made.

Blow really drug in some spots, but Fear and Loathing is definitely a trip.

    (Neither pun intended. Honestly.)

Jeeze, how could anyone see the horrible dragon special effects and think this was a new movie?

I own Requiem For a Dream and I don't remember hearing that song. Whenever I heard it in the real LOTR commercials, I thought it was original to those movies.

Definately, but the Tolkien estate won't allow it.

well they have 3 or 4 years to work that stuff out because of Jackson's full schedule...

before it was Jackson didn't want to do it at all...now he's opened up to the idea...

it'll get done. too much money to be made.

I don't think the Tolkien estate is holding it back, I heard that the film distribution rights are held by Warner Bros. (I think...), who distributed the cartoon a few years back. Because New Line hold the film rights to LOTR, they think they should also get the rights to The Hobbit. A very sticky predicament.

Having said that, Peter Jackson is open to the idea. And Ian McKellan has publically said he would play Gandalf again in The Hobbit. But they will need to get the other cast back as well for it to work properly. I.E. Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Ian Holm (?).

Because they saw what Hackson did with LOTR would be my guess.

What do you think they objected to more, the intense critical acclaim, or the incredible commercial success?
