I still think the bandwagon fans are the worst out of all fans though and since tmac signed there has been alot more of them popping up worse than ads on a computer. It gets worse when they buy tickets and then don't even come to the games....bah! I'd take a YOF or a TOF over and wagoneer any day, at least they are passionate.

There is one thing about "fair-weather" fans, and "bandwagon" fans when the injury bug hits or something happens and there is a losing streak they will be exposed for what they are.

I think it should be termed a MOF (McGrady Only Fan)... seems like we could do more with those letters in ridiculing MOFs.

For example, "You shouldn't be happy that McGrady took 40 shots last night and we lost you stinkin' MOF Mouth Of Feces!"

A homer is someone who would root for whatever team is in their city no matter who they are. They would rather not watch sports if they can't see a hometown team, which is why the ratings for the NFL dropped dramatically when the Oilers left Houston.

A fan of the team may or may not question the judgement of that franchise or take issue with specific players. But, the bottom line on a fan of a TEAM is this:

You may criticize one of your team's players to other fans of that team. You can complain and gripe all you want. But, if another team's fan or another player disses your guy - no matter how much you may dislike your team's guy - that's an act of war. It was once said on this board that players on the Rockets are like our little brothers. Sure, we can beat up on them and pick on them all we like, but if someone else does it, IT IS ON!

Like i said I still like Yao and I'll still support the Rockets out west, but I was saying I'm a Magic fan now too. Francis was originally the reason I started liking the Rockets, so of course I'm gonna stay loyal to him, but during the time he was in Houston, the rest of the Rockets grew on me too (most notably Yao, Taylor and Jimmy Jackson.)

Plust I like it here! :D

Jeff, is that restricted to "another team's fan" and "another player"? What about the media (not local) or the so called "analysts" (not local as well)?

i don't know where we'd find an encyclopedic definition of a homer, but i always think of it as fans who see the home team through rose-colored glasses. like the boki obsessions or way overrating player's trade value. i mean, players don't walk on water, that's all i'm saying.

It all depends on what they say. I think that reporters should report what they hear and see. That's their job. That is benign. There is no positive or negative, just information.

As for columnists, that can be debated. If they come after a player with unwarranted criticism or they say things when they don't know what they are talking about - an all-too-frequent trait among national commentators - then, they are fair game.

whoa whoa whoa back off boki! he is going to tear it up...one day.
i was born in memphis, lived in orlando, but spend the majority of my life in houston. what does that make me? a magic grizzlies rocket?

i think a real team fan is someone who sticks with the team through thick and thin... so if we are starting moochie next season i will painfully and tearfully cheer him on. moochie in a rockets or knicks jersey doesnt make me think any different about him...:D

As long as T-Mac takes more shots than Yao and is the primary option for the Rox then there will not be a problem with the fans on this board.

the biggest problem between those of us who liked steve and the YOF fans was how critical the YOF were of Steve no matter how he played. Season before last Steve took too many shots, last year they lambasted him for any other reason. Those of us who like the man were drawn into the debate and soon it became a Yao v. Steve thing. Its like the war and dems and repubs, instead of all being on the same page their is too much infighting and noboday gets what they want. YOF suck.

Let's get this straight. As great as Yao is and will become, for the time being T-mac is a better player. His skills are otherworldly. He should clearly be the first option on offense. Even though I think he should and will take fewer shots.
