The fans at Rocket games generally ARE weak. Do you object to that statement?

Yes, very much so. I try to everything I can to make the fans at the games stronger. I wish the fans at the game were stronger. It upsets me greatly when someone says game-attending fans are weak.

'Fan' is not a title given only to season ticket holders or people who make 10 or more games a year.

Correct. I said exactly that in bold letter a few posts back. Shall I repeat?

I never should have equated "true fan" with "game attending fan". I apologize for that. IMO, someone can be a "true fan" without attending games.

Claiming someone is acting offended or like they wrongly felt something was pointed at them, when they never say anything remotely like that....is weak.

"So you have the luxury of being able to afford a season pass. Big deal. Good for you. Enjoy that luxury while you can. Or maybe you have tons of money and will always be able to afford it. Good for you. Enjoy that luxury because that is exactly what it is. "

More of a budgeting priority decision than a luxury. I could easily have spent that money elsewhere, then spend all my time whining about the low attendance. I made a financial sacrifice to attend all the games.

If you save $20/month you can afford to buy 9 pairs of $13 seats the day single-game seats go on sale.

Next season, I'll spend my ticket money on a car, then spend all my time whining here about low attendance and weak fans.

    Space Ghost,

What's the point of saying fans at games are weak. And what's the point of saying jamcracker has money and it is a luxury.

You are now just trying to provoke.

I honestly cannot bare to not see live basketball at some level anywhere. I must see basketball live. It is not that expensive, and is free at plenty of places. Going to a game at the Summit is sheer joy. It is not a luxury.

Why don't you complain about ticket prices to the Rockets rather than getting into some weak argument with jamcracker about how you wish you had luxuries like him.

    very weak.

uh-oh, somebody pissed off sirhangover again! hey sirhangover, maybe you should try a little of the old "hair of the dog," and then you might not be in such a bad, hungover mood all day. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

back to fans and games, I have a confession to make. My family had season tickets when i was a kid, from about 84 (hakeem!) through about 1990, 1991. I loved going to games. I screamed and yelled and cursed at the billy paultzes and the mark agguires and the mike maddens and the steve javies of the NBA. I remember our seats -- lower prom, section 114 or maybe 117, good seats for sure but nothing like the courtside ones -- were about $15 a ticket. I think those tickets go for $84 now. So I have a lot of sympathy for heypartner's argument with respect to price. And frankly, the pricing is what is (a) driving attendance down and (b) driving the quality of the experience down.

The latter part really concerns me because, and this is the confession part, I could afford to go to more than 5 or 6 games a year like I do now, and I could make the time pretty easily, but I don't. The price of the tickets definitely pisses me off, but it's the 'trickle-down effect' of the prices that is the worst part of going to a game. The games I have been to since i was at game 7 against the knicks have been ruined by ****ty fans. Not just that they're either older or richer or wearing ties or just quiet and don't cheer / yell / curse, but they actually tell you to SIT DOWN or SHUT UP if you have the audacity to stand and cheer for (or on occassion yell at) the Rockets! I basically got tired of fighting the morons around me and of calling out early leavers and other such sub-classes. I frankly have a better time, for the most part, watching the game on TV in my house where I can yell and scream and curse all I want. It is a sad state of affairs and I'm sure I'll get flamed for admitting that YES I FREQUENTLY CHOOSE TO WATCH THE GAME AT HOME AS OPPOSED TO GO TO THE MAUSOLEUM WITH THE DEAD PEOPLE IN IT. I suppose that makes me part of the problem, but I'm looking forward to sitting with all the cc.netters. I'm assuming none of you all will tell me to sit down and shut up. well maybe if i'm yelling at Rudy but i reserve that right!
