I thought that when the Rockets got Barkley for the '96-'97 season, we were going to at least make the finals until that damn bearhug by Malone and that 3 went in by that biyotch Stockton.
Man, you guys underestimate Dru Hill and Sisqo. Those guys have talent. There are a lot of songs by them that get play on R&B stations that you don't hear much on Pop/Top 40 stations. From digging around, here are some of their hits. There may be more that I'm forgetting. In My Bed - peaked at #4 on Billboard Never Make a Promise - #7 We're Not Making Love No More - #13 How Deep is Your Love - #3 These Are the Times - #21 Incomplete - #1 Thong Song - #1 Sisqo R&B/Hip-Hop artist of the year (including 5 other awards) 6 consecutive R&B #1's Did vocals for other hits by people like Will Smith & Mya There are also songs like "Unleash the Dragon" and "Got To Get It" that I'm not sure where they ended up ranked, but were R&B club/dance hits. I think people think Sisqo, think "Thong Song", and then say "1 hit wonder". They don't consider his career before with Dru Hill or the fact he usually tears up the R&B charts.
Two of the many talents of clutchcity's illustrious Doctor of Dunk: 1) Closing threads faster than you can say "Jack Robinson" 2) Being the complete historian of Dru Hill/Sisquo
Dru Hill should have been the next Boyz II Men. They were a sensational R&B group. But Sisquo had to go all solo on their asses and break 'em up.
My Sam Houston State Beerkats....er, Bearkats would upset Florida in the first round. Buddy Ryans "46" defense would finally win the Oilers a Superbowl. Damn you Joe Montana, damn you to Hell
I thought Joe Smith was going to be a Chris Webber type...Until this year I would have listed my expectations of Marbury being the next great pg, which I took some riding for in here, but that seems to be coming nearer the truth...I was sure Billy Owens was going to be a stud player...I thought both Shaq and Penny and T-Mac and Vince Carter were each the next dynastic duos...I, too, thought Rick Mirer was going to be a great QB, mostly on Bill Walsh's say so...I thought Courtney Brown would be a Bruce Smith type stud de, Andre Wadsworth too...I thought Hakeem had 1 or 2 more really good years left in him when he left...I thought Eric Davis was going to go down as one of the best baseball players ever...I thought I had a legit shot with Denise Richards...I thought that the Lord of The Rings series was badly miscast when I first heard the names...I really thought Kansas would beat Syracuse this year...I thought the Big Three would beat the Bulls in the Finals at least once...When I was a little kid, I thought I would grow up to be a superhero...ok, maybe hoped was a litle more accurate for that last one...I thought Steve Nash was just going to be a decent player... Oddly enough, despite the longevity of the above list, I would still put my prognostication record up against almost anyone...
I like how you subtlely tossed that in the middle of your list of incorrect predictions. Perhaps a test to see if anyone read that mother of all paragraphs?
Thank you DoD. I think some people are "pop-heads" and don't really know about people's success in specific genres. In the R&B world, Sisqo is anything but a "one hit wonder."
Just remembered another one..I was absolutely convinced that Robert Horry was gonna be a bigger, better Scottie Pippen, about 2 years into his NBA career...This one still hurts...
I truly expected that the Rockets would beat the Jazz in the 1997 West Finals because we'd finally beaten Seattle and I thought the Rockets would finally play the Bulls. Seattle had always been the roadblock in 93 and 96 to the Rockets playing the Bulls. but I completely overlooked how crappy Kevin Willis really was, and the Rockets were beaten by Utah. I was real wrong about that series. I'm sorry. I am in a zone right now. A Kevin Willis bashing zone ever since I found it he throw an elbow against the Suns and got ejected.
