My prediction, Rudy will still be here in 35 years stinking up the court with his neanderthal like offense. Some of you, will still be singing through your toothless mouths about how we should show loyalty and "give it time" because he won 2 championships back in 94-95.

He's not the sole problem, but he's the biggest one.

2 years ago when we won 45 games Norris, Francis, Mobley, and Taylor had terrific success running isos. Had we been in the east we would have been the 5th or 6th seed. As ugly as it was we could kill people on the one on one plays. You can't do these with the zone. The league wanted to prevent the iso because it is ugly-ball, and theywanted to improve the flow of the game with more player movement. They did not want 4 guys on one side of the floor standing around watching.

When the league switched to zone, teams like the Mavs, T-wolves, etc..., teams that struggled with a man to man defense started to excell because their liability has been reduced. This is not to say they are good because of the newer rules, but every team has strengths and weakness. If you take away a weakness of a team through the rules then you indirectly improve a team - no conspiracy theory. I do not think the league was trying to help or hurt any one team. I think they wanted to improve the style and flow of the game. In doing this they helped some teams and hurt others, indirectly.

The single easiest way to beat a zone defense is to shoot over the top. Remember several weeks ago we hung in close with the Mavs until the 4th when they started to bomb 3s. They was nothing you could do to stop them. If you cover too tight at the arc Finely, Nash, or Dirk will drive by you. If I played the Rockets right now I would close the lane and invite open 3s and we wouldn't be able to hit consistently.

We do get open looks when they execute the game plan. They don't do this often enough though. They are too stupid. How many posts are there complaining about guys trying to dribble through double teams and excessive dribbling in general? This comes from one on one players trying to break people down off the dribble because this is their style. It is difficult to change the style of play you have used for years over night. It would be like asking Barry Sanders to quit running around people and to lower his Shoulder and run them over.

You have to remember that Les is damn close to Rudy T. It's tough to do business when your personal feelings get in the way. So, the way I see it, either Rudy will bow out gracefully and accept a front office job, or he stays on as HC for another 4-5 years. Les Alexander will not fire the man, even though he is well past his prime as a coach.

If the owner believed his 'one of the best teams ever assembled' quote than he was either bamboozled by those who assembled same or was let down by those who coached the disassembling squad.

One + one to me says that either the team assembles a turn-a-round sufficient to make the play-offs and make an accounting in the play-offs or the great (once) New Yorker will reach out and touch someone else to run the basketball operation as GM and someone else to run the team on the floor.

It will be a shame. A necessary shame.

No way he's getting fired at the end of this season. He may leave, but if you're familiar with Rudy's history, you would know the chances of him quitting are pretty small.

If the Rockets are severely out of the playoff race by all-star break next year, he'll be gone. If the Rockets do not make the playoffs at the end of next season, he'll be gone.

I see what you're saying but it's like a broken record. It has been a HUGE offseason for the team each of the past 4 years. And there has been need for player movement and significant player developement each of the past 4 summers as well. While nobody thought the playoffs were a lock, this time last year, people were definitely saying Rudy has to make it next year or he's gone. All of a sudden, Ming comes along, and its like Rudy gets an extension, because Ming is just a rookie and Rudy needs at least two years to work with him. Bunch of crap if you ask me. I long for the day when the offseason will just be a tweak here or there, the players can get some real solid rest, work on their game like professionals (i.e. - not at Rucker park), and come back next year ready to go at it again.

I highly highly doubt Rudy will get fired. 99.999% chance he won't until midseason next year at the earliest. What should happen following the teams complete collaps for the later 55% of the season is Rudy should step down, blame it on being real tired or something, take a front office job alongside CD, and let a new coach try his hand.

It sucks that we'll probably have to wait until mid-season of next year before anything is done. To me, it just seems like watching an animal die hoping that it will some how come to life again. I say cut your loses. Why wait for something you know is going to happen. Take out the gun and finish the sucker off. Save time, money, heartache, and my blood pressure.

Rudy knows he's in over his head, Les knows, the players know, we know, my mom even knows. Rudy should get out now, before EVERYONE see's that he can't coach a game anymore. I'd hate to see his status as a top coach go to waste to save some ego's.

its getting harder and harder for me to keep backing him up and i love the guy. he is a true gentleman.
however, if we miss the playoffs he should be fired, but since were going into a new building i bet he stays no matter what.

i would just like to see rudy t get pissed off and/or act like he gives a damn. i realize that it is not in his demeanor to show PDE (public displays of emotion), but someone needs to light a fire under the teams ass. they are just playing like absolute dog crap right now.

We know that this same team was able to do some good things earlier in the season and even last night, with Yao being alot more active, you could see some good things. However, one has to be amazed and perplexed when you see the team's difficulty with running the most basic plays.

I am at a loss how SF, who can be a magician with the ball, cannot repeatedly and routinely run the PNR, a play which is taking Stockton, a less gifted dribbler, to the Hall.

Then on defense there is this propensity to help for helping sake. Last night we got caught helping, giving the highly respected Detroit shooters open shots. Now tell me who on Detroit's frontline forces you to help, based on their play. To me, coaching was the difference in the game last night. On one hand Carlisle made life easy for all his players and Rudy did not. Heck, just look at what this guy is doing with possibly one dominant player, if you want to call him that.

I noticed the same thing. Even Langhi seems light years ahead of where he was under Rudy.

Hey Guys (and gals if you're reading this...) -

I'm hearing a whole lot of you who think action should be taken sooner rather than later. Get on board with the petition!! I put the link below:

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&postid=777845#post777845

The more name we get on it, the more the media will use it as a story to puch Les into a position to make the chance that we all know must be made for the sake of the team, the players and the city!!

If Rudy goes, which is likely if they don't make the playoffs next season, who is going to replace him? I mean, why get rid of Rudy unless you think you can upgrade the position? What about VanGundy? He seemed to be able to do a lot with a little while with the Knicks. If you extrapolate that logic, he should win an NBA title with the Rockets.

I like Van Gundy. I think he is a student of the game; he is familiar with precious resources and pressure from expectations, having coached in NYC; and he can motivate and install an attitude of toughness that Rudy seem to avoid. Just picture Ming posterizing Wallace and that is the all game attitude we need.

    Exactly.

Obviously it will be very difficult to fire Rudy. In fact, in this thread's first post it was summed up pretty well: this train wreck is getting beyond Rudy's repair.

If it must be done, then Rudy must step down or be dismissed sometime this summer. Granted, Steve is playing injured; but other teams don't fall apart when one player gets hurt. And Posey has regressed since arriving here; EG shows no improvement this year; the team overall has shown little improvement (although Yao is an encouragement).
