Her speech was very downbeat and almost concessionary. I think she's very discouraged. I would be surprised if she got ugly before NH. Instead, expect her change her approach one more time and focus on "change". It was like a blast from the past with Bill, Wesley Clark and Madeleine Albright standing behind her. It made her seem like a piece of history instead of the future.
Did you hear her speech? Am I crazy or did anyone else think she was halfway defeatist? On the other hand, Edwards looked like he was just beginning to fight.
Well, basso I did quote verbatim from the link you posted. And I quoted everything on those two topics. I will acknowledge you made a good call on Fred performing better than expected.
thats ba(l)ack hussein obama to you! and edwards is done - he needed to win iowa outright to have any kind of realistic shot. but im surprised fred thompson did as well as he did and as for tranny guiliani all i can say is...
How sweet it is. After all the talk from the GOP field about who was most like Reagan, get ready for the "Obama Republicans." This could be an historic moment.
Good speech... he played it smart and gave a general election speech with bits for NH and SC thrown in instead of the other way around. I'm a bit surprised by the margin but not the turnout. Clearly, people are sick of the current administration.
Well Hillary did suffer more of a defeat than Edwards. How would I know, but the pundits all say that it would have been much better for Hillary if Edwards had won. The pundits all say that Edward is dead if he did not come in first. I also think that Edwards is legitimately and personally into the cause of fighting for the poor and the middle class against the abuses of the corporations and their control of American society. Given his life story and career as a trial lawyer fighting for the little guy. I think that he was using the time he got in his speech to make his points, whether he still has a great chance of winning the nomination or not. I don't think he cares that much what the pundits say. I get the feeling he may pursue his cause even after the 2008. For Hillary there is no great cause of equal personal importance she just wants to be elected and go back to the White House. Of course she will still have her work as a senator if she fails to get the nomination. Of the big three I was for Edwards first and then Obama. I was impressed by Edwards' speech and also Obama's. Hillary's not very much. Huckabee was relaxed and smiley and said next to nothing of substance. He does have a lot of the now jaded Bush folksiness down home on the ranch stuff. Interestingly Huckabee and Obama have somewhat the same theme of "can't we all get along " ignoring how the right, Bush and the GOP ers in Congress and their corporate allies have played hardball and only compromise inch by inch when forced to do so. Huckabee, of course, will not be harassed by them if he wins the nomination.. Obama may not be so sunny when the hard right go after him with their Swift Boating tactics as we will see parroted by TJ and Bigtexx on this bbs. Hopefully he can stand up to these bullies. I now think Obama will become president if he can withstand the Swiftboating style tactics. I can't see McCain, Romney or Huckabee beating him and Giuliani is out of it I think. My wife and I were scratching our heads as to who would be his VP. She says a white male, but we don't think it will be any of the other candidates.
I was talking to my family about Obama if he were elected president wondering who would be his VP. I know its a topic no one really wants to see happen, but I believe there is still a stringent minority of crazy racists who would not stand for Obama as president. I fear his election if only for his livelihood since I don't think racism in this country is anywhere close to gone as we would all like to believe. It merely masks itself better. In saying all this if he is elected, I would not be surprised at all if he were assassinated, but I think as a sort of backing of insurance if his life was taken, he could have another minority as VP to continue on in his tenure. Bill Richardson for example who is a mix of Hispanic and Caucasian heritage like Obama's mix of African and Caucasian ancestry. I don't think Richardson would be a likely candidate for VP, but I could easily see Edwards fill such a role assuming he's not the primary candidate for the presidency. Ultimately though its who would represent the country's best interest minority candidate or otherwise, and I think Edwards would be a fine candidate as well.
Interesting perspective on the VP choice. If Russ Feingold makes himself available, I'd like to see him on the VP ballot for Obama. The Obama-Feingold ticket will be a helluva formidable combo. I can imagine the jaw-dropping reaction from guys like TJ right here on this very BBS. Edwards strikes me as a candidate who sure knows how to talk the talk ...
Edwards probably appeals to some of the same Republicans that Huckabee appeals to - it's a strange phenomenon of having a sort of "populist" candidate in either party. I know several republicans like you described - some prefer Obama and some Edwards.
i might have missed someone else mentioning this, but how much can obama's victory in iowa be attributed to anti-hillary republicans? in iowa you dont have to be registered w/ a party to vote for one of their candidates and i think you can vote in both rep and dem primaries. i was was driving around all day yesterday for work listening to npr and they had talked to a few hard-core republicans who specifically said they were caucusing for obama in order to stick it to hillary. im still puzzled as to how the heck freddy boy got 13%.
