RM95 -- I sincerely hope that you're right and I'm wrong on the battleground states! ------------------
Probably some hard core right-winger like Rep. Warren Chisum. or he'll upgrade John Cornyn from the AG Or maybe US Congressman Bill Archer?
Actually, the State Senate picks, and they have to pick one of their own. State Sen. Teel Bivens from Amarillo has made a big point to tell everyone that he'd like the job (he lists his ability to raise money and the fact that he comes from a rich family among his qualifications, by the way). ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
im not sure yet about any of these but ill say what sounds right to me. 1. i have no idea. yesterday gore was barely losing in the poles. 2. demo's 3. Repub's 4. if we win our next two, yes. if not, im ont sure. 5. yes
I still wouldn't be surprised to see Bush win the popular vote (no way 55%) but lose the electoral vote. Like achebe stated, Gore's leading in Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida. Add those to New York and California, it will be very, very hard for Bush to win. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
1. Who will win the presidency? Probably Gore, but it really doesn't matter. Either way, the Secret Service guys are still going to be scared as Hell, since both vice-presidential candidates are so much more qualified. 2. Who will control the House? Big Oil companies, big tobacco, and anyone else willing to drop a few million dollars. 3. Who will control the Senate? Big Oil companies, big tobacco, and anyone else willing to drop a few million dollars. 4. Will the arena deal pass? If Yinka Dare can pass at least once, so can the arena referendum! 5. Will the late governor of Missouri still win the Senate Election? By a landslide! ------------------
I see grummett is managing his own expectations. ------------------ "Everyone I know has a big but... come on Simone, let's talk about your but."
1. Bush -- with about 55% of the vote I'm guessing. 2. Republicans 3. Republicans 4. Yes, it will pass. I've been very surprised to see how much more willing many people are to support this deal than the previous one. In some of the organizations I work with, many were vehemently opposed on the last go-round...this time they're talking about how necessary it is to get the arena built. 5. I think it's possible that the late-Governor will win...but I don't think it's Constitutional to pass the seat to his widow. Article I, Section 3, Paragraph 3 : "no person shall be a Senator who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen." Hard to argue the man can be elected since he certainly won't be an "inhabitant of that state" on November 7th. Thus, he is truly never elected and his widow has no stake in it at all. If her name were on the ballot, it would be a different story. 6. As for Hillary...I really don't know. ------------------
MadMax, Do you think it's going to be that much of a route? I was/am suprised to see that Gore's killing Bush in Florida and mildly ahead and many of the other important swing states. p.s. the acting governor can appoint whomever he wants to to the seat... and MO. law requires the late governor's name to remain on the ballot. ------------------ "Everyone I know has a big but... come on Simone, let's talk about your but."
Achebe -- honestly, it matters very little what the Missouri law says in my opinion. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land...and it says to be elected you have to be an inhabitant of the state that votes you in. Kinda hard to argue that a dead man is an inhabitant! Yes..I do think it will be more decisive than what the polls say...I'm saying that primarily because I think the Republican vote is undercounted in these polls. The last two elections bears that out. Dole ended up getting roughly 6% more of the vote than what the polls were showing (on average) on the very day of the election. I think this vote will be ultimately, like most elections, about energizing your base. I don't think Gore has done that, but I know Bush has. ------------------
