Without Parsons I see Dwight scoring much more. If he can at least shoot 65% I could see him averaging 23-25ppg this year.

On paper this 55% to 60% doesn't seem to have much impact. Dwight attempted 638 FTs in 2013-2014, of which 349 were made. A 5% increase in FT% means 34 more made FTs. But remember that some of the FTs were a consequence of Hack-A-Dwight. With an estimate of 50 fewer such HAD attempts in the next season (a result of the increased FT%), total FT made will be 353, which is only marginally better than last year's 349.

Prediction: before Howard makes 68% of his free throws, I will win the Texas Lottery.

His form is good enough. The problem is in his head, but we already know this.

You didn't specify if it would be Live or 2K that he'd hit the 68% in.

Unless you start hitting them and they foul you less.

A problem he had is that he'd bend his knees in preparing to shoot, but then would just stand completely straight up on his release. It was too robotic. No rhythm. I'm hoping he doesn't go back to that, once he's in games.

Because of his strength and size though, he may be able to use his legs less. He just needs the rhythm and right release.

    Legs are definitely important.

Practing FTs like he's doing is important, but it's not like you're ever going to just stand there in a game and shoot ten in a row.

They should do drills where DH will shoot 2 FT's, run down the court, play post D, get banged around, box out, grab a rebound, then shoot 2 more FTs. Repeat over and over. better simulation of the hack-a-dwight

if you move up to 68% then you are in good range to hit a lot of them.

Every year fans predict that dwights gonna turn for the better and is gonna finally start hitting his free throws. Every year dwight shoots in the 50th percentile. Every year fans are disappoint. Dont be disappoint this year and just face reality.

Being a head case has nothing to do with form. He's self-conscious when he gets to the line, that's why he sucks in games. If he shoots 65% he deserves comeback player of the decade. He needs a sports psychiatrist. Morey must knows this. Question is does he have one and if not, why not? A reporter has to ask this at some point. PLEASE ask this in training camp, Clutch.

He didn't tweak the shot every year. People shouldn't have expected progress, without any changes.

Isn't it odd that someone who's so outgoing would be self-conscious? A guy who takes pictures left and right is self conscious? Speaks publicly, plays in front of millions. He's going out of his way to show fans and the media he's working and improving his game. i don't think you attack this, as if the root of his problem is being self-conscious and that's screwing up his shot. I think his shot was screwed up and that was causing him too think too much.

He does have a shot consultant. I'm not sure how long he's been working with Dwight though (he's the guy in the OP video with dwight)

Agree with others here, would be satisfied with 60% from him.

    I predict around 58% though.

I made a thread last year showing the difference between Dwight's form in practice and how it changes in games.

It's almost like he read the thread, because he fixed one specific thing that I thought was holding him back most, and his free throw percentage improved when he started doing that near the end of the season.

Since it was near the end of the season, there wasn't enough games to raise his overall percentage much, but it makes me optimistic about his free throw shooting this season.

    I wouldn't say 68%... but I think 60% is realistic.

I expect to see numbers similar to his 2014 playoff percentage.... So around 62% or 63% is where I see him maxing out...When he's focused Dwight can hit his free throws (Ala the last few games of the season vs Portland) But I believe anything in the high 60s is too much for him to sustain over the course of an 82 game season

I'd be happy if it happened, but frankly don't anticipate it improving enough to matter enough to this team. We should be focusing on other stuff like continuing to refine his post game and his biggest weakness: passing the ball when help defense arrives.

One of the best indicators of big man dominance has always been having more assists than turnovers. Dwight's getting up there in age but still hasn't turned that corner. I think he misses a lot of opportunities to pass to open shooters because he's so entrenched in thinking about what he's going to do way before he does it.

Notice how every guy shot 82% or better in practice, but only 3 guys shot over 82% in games.

68% sounds a bit naive. I'd be pretty happy if he could shoot at 60%. This will be Dwight's 11th season in the league. There's really no big reason to think he's going to magically become a significantly better free-throw shooter. Even in his rookie year when he still wasn't as beefed up as he is now and had a better touch, he shot at 67% - still a notch below 68%.
