A lot depends on what team drafts him. Same for every player but more so on Simmons. If there is a high usage ball dominant pg and not a good rim protector in the team who gets him that can harm his progress significantly. He would fit in very few teams and the roster must be built around him to accomodate him. Whereas most other players dont need that when they are drafted.

Why can't you give the ball to Simmons like the Cavs did to LeBron and let him learn on the go? LeBron wasn't that good as a rookie, he just had a really high usage and bad efficiency on nearly 20 attempts per game as a 19 year old. I'm fairly certain Simmons can get 20-5-5 on 40% with 18.3 fga per game and a 28.2 USG% Sure, the Lakers or Sixers would be awful for a good 4-5 years(look at AD and the Pels) but he will start getting them toward playoff seeding towards that time. LeBron missed the playoffs his first 3 years. Now, if Boston gets Simmons. That's a playoff team every year of his first 5 years. I don't see why no one considers Boston a threat to get Durant or one of the big names next year like Westbrook or Griffin especially if they get the #1 pick.
To be a top 5 player - no it doesn't. You're either top 5ish or not top 5ish, regardless of who drafts you IMO. We're talking top FIVE.

Because Simmons doesnt have Lebrons body to go at the basket at will. Simmons doesnt have a good wingsoan and its questionabke how well he will be abke to finish against length.
This will be a fun thread to come back to years from now. Do we have something like this from years ago that puts us in this time frame? KAT and Davis are the only locks barring injuries. Rest I'm unsure.
