You do realize that the 3 names you threw out there are QBs that are teamed up alongside 3 of the best defenses in the game, right? Obviously, having a QB with a 100+ rating is not a priority for them.

The Dolphins had the 15th ranked defense, but their QB had a 97 rating. Playoffs.

Arizona had the 19th ranked defense, but their QB had a 97 rating. Playoffs.

Atlanta had the 24th ranked defense, but their QB had an 88 rating. Playoffs.

So yes, McNabb, Eli, Collins, and Roethlisberger can all afford to have lower ratings because they have a defense that will keep them in games.

When you dont have a top 10 defense, you rely more on the QB, as was the case with Pennington, Warner, Ryan, Peyton, etc...

The Texans absolutely need a QB with a high rating because we need a QB that is efficient on offense, giving our defense more room for error.

Any QB would have been hurt if they got hit like Matt got hit last year...to call him fragile or injury prone because of that is stupid. Yes, the season before, he was injured as well...but last season was a complete fluke. There is no reason to assume that he will miss significant time this year.

So a guy who has missed roughly a third of the games in each of the last 2 seasons and did not finish others should not have the label injury prone. Those were his only 2 seasons as a starter. This is his 3rd and he is nursing another injury, before the season even starts. What kind of facts are there to say anything other than he will miss about a third of the games this year? At what point is it okay to tag him with injury prone.

If you ran a business and a guy missed work about 3 out of every ten days and left early, before the work was complete another 2 days out of the ten, would you keep him around? Keep in mind his performance was only a little better than average while there. That was his first month. The begginning of the second month over the weekend before even starting he is already saying he doesn't feel well. Why would you believe it to be any different for the next two weeks than what he had showed in his first 4? This is exactly what is happenning with Shaub. Would you be stupid for believing he is probably gonna do the same, or would you just accept it because in your mind it doesn't matter he misses because he had a good excuse in your mind for 2 days he missed?

Injury prone should not be a label for someone over just two seasons, specially when one of the seasons was due to an insanely cheap hit, which would have injured pretty much any other QB in the league.

Exactly, those were his only 2 seasons, 1 of which he got injured on a cheap hit. So really, he had one season of normal injury. And this season, he "is nursing another injury"...please. Not only did he continue playing right after that injury, but he was also effective. He is also going to start on Sunday, so I dont see what the issue is here.

So basically, you are saying he misses out on the action about 5 days out of 10. How exactly is this anything close to Schaub's situation?

If not for the freak injury, he would have started over 81% of the games in a Texan's uniform. Yes, its too early to call him injury prone.

Also, he wasnt just "only a little better than average" while he played...he was 7th in QB rating in the NFL!

You're getting a little out of hand with this bogus scenario here...So now you are saying over a 6 week period...only 2 days are attributed to a good excuse (meaning, the time he missed due to the illegal hit)?

Sorry, but your analogy makes no sense and has many inaccuracies.

The facts are, that last season, Schaub missed 4 games due to a hit that would have knocked anyone else to the sidelines. Essentially, you are judging one injury riddled season and labeling Schaub as someone that is injury prone. It makes ZERO sense. If Schaub continues to get banged up here and there and misses a start here, misses a start there, and a couple somewhere inbetween...and he does that over a couple seasons, then you may have a legitimate argument. But until that happens, there is nothing that indicates that Matt is injury prone.

Schaub isnt banged up...he just tweaked an ankle. Thats it. Kube even said if it were regular season, he would have not missed any time. So get off his back. As long as he dosent get hit illegally(twice in one game), or get smashed on his shoulder by a 350 pound lineman, he will be fine....Carson Palmer is injury prone, Matt Schaub is not...GO TEXANS!!!

    10-6 or even 11-5

I did not like what I saw in the pre-season esp the Vikes game. We did not look playoff caliber.

    If we miss the playoffs.....

Option A: Give Kubes an ultimatum for the following season: Playoff AND a playoff win or join the unemployment line.

Option B: send Kubes walking and pull out all the stops for Bill Cowher.

Except no one is debating the facts. What people are debating is whether the facts are useful to predict the future. Here's an example. Let's say a hypothetical QB is generally a stud, but has a major problem in rain games. Career rating in the 60s when rain is involved. Now, last year, let's say his team played in quite a few rain games, and his numbers were worse than usual.

But let's say he's starting tomorrow in a game where it's sunny and 90. Would you expect him to do poorly? My guess is you wouldn't -- because his prior-season numbers aren't predictive because of the circumstances in which they occurred. You're arguing against yourself here. No one is arguing that Schaub hasn't missed time due to injuries. The question is, can it be expected to occur again this year? Considering he was relatively healthy last year, with the exception of a viciously illegal hit, I don't see why to expect him to miss time.

They're the three best teams because they have the best teams. You know, the component of 50+ players and a number of coaches. Are you honestly saying that you don't think Schaub would win more games if the Texans got to replace their defense with Pittsburgh/Tennessee/NY?

I'm assuming you think Ben Roethlisberger is a better QB than Peyton Manning, correct? After all, he's won more Super Bowls. Clearly, quarterbacks just go out and play one on one. Has nothing to do with the teams around them, right?

Everyone wants to win, but believe it or not, you can't do it by yourself. And to judge an individual by what is the result of 50+ players and coaches is just silly.

So, I guess 11 wins is out of the question now unless they can somehow beat the Titans on the road. Highly unlikely.

Good call Cat!!! I see you arguing against the coach and other posters on the thread about Shaub. His coach says he was hurt, but that goes against your argument, so he must be lying.

This is one of the games I thought Kube might lose from being outcoached, as they clearly should have won on paper, but what happened today was something I did not even see coming. A rookie head coach and a rookie QB come into your house and smoke you on your turf. They were shut out on offense and had nothing on defense. How can this happen to a team ready to make their run versus one in the first game of a rebuilding project?

Sanchez was clearly the best QB on the field and Kubes again had no clue. This is exactly what I was saying last week about scheduling not materring and Shaub being an experiment. It is time to give up on Shaub as a dependent starter and Kubes as a coach, period. The Texans need to start their rebuilding and if they start 0-4,which is very possible, it may be sooner than most anticipated.

I'll let the guys at PFT explain it for you. Basically, if you think an NFL coach/team is at any point being open and honest with reporters (especially when they have an agenda and ask very leading questions that can potentially make the coach look good), you're an idiot. Please tell me you're not that naive.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ves-one-thing----believe-nothing-anyone-says/

Maybe the fact that the Jets rushed for a whopping 190 yards on 4.5 yards per attempt made life just a little bit easier for Sanchez? Not to mention the fact that to get any pressure, the Texans had to rush seven and eight guys, leaving receivers wide open in the flats. Meanwhile, the Jets routinely harassed Schaub rushing only three and four guys... think that might have made a difference? No, the situations were completely identical, and Sanchez succeeded where Schaub failed. Right.

Also, to your other post referencing Manning, Big Ben and Collins, and doing what it takes to keep your team in games – yes, that’s what you want if you have a top-five, world-class defense capable of winning games for you. Unfortunately, the Texans don’t have that, so they need their quarterback/offense to make plays.

actually, thru 3Qs, the jets were averaging just 3.7 yds/carry. jones busted two big ones of 35+ in the 4Q (long after the game was over), which padded the stats; otherwise, no - i don't think it made it easier at all. sanchez earned that one yesterday.

the texans, defensively, did *exactly* what i'm sure they wanted to do: forced sanchez into multiple of 3rd and longs. give the kid credit - he delivered. on their first two scoring drives (totaling 10 points), the jets converted (thru the air) on third and: 10, 10, 7, 9, 8 and 10. *that* right there - not the running game - is what killed the texans.

if you want to pull a silver lining out of the game, there ya go - if they can improve third down defense (and it can't get any worse, right?), this defense might be improved enough to keep us in games.

holding a team to 3.7 ypc is considered good? because i'm thinking that sets up a 3rd and 3...and then you're hitting the first down, on average, every time.

the steelers were held to less than 2 yards per carry against the Titans Thursday night.

3.7, last year, would have ranked 6th in the entire NFL. yes, it's *very* good.

care to guess what the titans gave up last year (hint: there's a 3, a decimal point, and a 7 prominently involved). :)))

I disagree that they harassed Sanchez all game. They were blitzing but he wasn't really bothered by it at all and they didn't come close to taking him down very much. It was pretty ineffective.

he was flushed and hit often early in the game, he just played with a lot poise. if that's *any* indication of how he's going to play the rest of this year, that team may win 10+ games. he played extremely well.

I think the reason the texans lost was because the offensive line SUCKED!!!! It was like being back in the david carr era....i dont care who is back there, if you dont have time to set your feet before getting run over, your not going to throw worth a @#$%. I think the center needs to be benched...he got thrown to the ground by the nose tackle with ONE ARM...P!$$ poor...

The line had its issues for sure, but the majority of the time, the Jets were sending more players than we had blocking...in a situation like that, it doesnt matter who you have on the oline, youre getting outnumbered which assures that someone goes unblocked.

The blame is with the coaches in (1) Not allowing Schaub to make audibles and (2) Not making adjustments to the defensive scheme we were facing.

I put the blame in the following order:

    Coaches
    O-Line
    Matt Schaub
