I don't think we're going to do much at all, a lot of this seems like making a move for the sake of making a move.

Heavy activity is destabilising, that's ok when there's nothing worth keeping stable but not so much any more.

Here's some Ben Gordon at his best. Note: He was coming off screens in practically all these sets. That is the most difficult shot to make, run from one side to the other, around the screen, catch, turn, and fire. Gordon is tremendously strong. If he were here, he'd most likely be spotting up and firing and using the screen sets possibly when Harden was on the bench:

    Enjoy Mr. Ben Gordon.

Here's some Gordon playoff madness from a few years back:

He does a 3-way trade with Rockets - Boston - Bobcats

    Rockets IN: Green + Lee
Rockets out: Asik + Lin + Donuts

Bos IN: Asik + Lin + Donuts + Thomas + Picks from Bobcats
Bos out: Rondo + Green + Lee

    Bobcats IN: Rondo
Bobcats out: Thomas + Picks to Bos.

Wouldn't be surprised if Morey goes this route: Just sign some player using the Room Exception and Minimum Salary Exceptions and go into the season.

You can always make trades during the season after your team and other teams figure out what everyone needs on the roster. Barring catastrophic injuries, knock on wood, this team should be on pace to at least make the playoffs so they can afford to be patient.

My guess: Morey either makes a significant trade very soon or not at all until the season starts because of the following:

    1. He's probably burned up the phone exhausting trade possibilities during the last few days for stuff that can be executed right at the expiration of the moratorium. If there is something worth doing, might as well do it now before somebody changes their mind. If they haven't found anything worth doing yet by tomorrow, maybe the right deal just isn't available at the moment.

    2. Before the Rockets sign the likes of Garcia and Casspi and maybe Canaan if his deal is above the rookie minimum, there is a window when the team can maximize the cap room that it opens by trading away Lin or Asik's salary because the empty roster charge is lower than the cap hit of the veteran free agents. After the free agents sign, trading away salaries may still open up some cap room, but the amount isn't as much. So, if you are going to do a salary dumping deal, now is the time.

Perhaps more important, the number of free agents that are worth spending the potential cap room on is dwindling. There are still some on the market (Kirilenko? I don't think you'd go after any of the better restricted FA because their teams will most likely just match) but they probably won't wait too long before deciding.

Fire McHale. He is no longer needed.

McHale, Lin, Asik...these guys were the plan moving forward had they not been able to land a big time player.

Now they have 2. And 2 huge egos to boot.

McHale is not an ego tamer, as witnessed all last year where he let Harden do whatever he wanted.

They'll get an ego tamer after they finish this season 51-31 and bow out in the 2nd round/conference finals.
