Mine just went out for the 2nd time (1st was around 6 am). Sucks, cuz the heat goes off when that happens.

America would be in chaos without power.

always wondered what do you do when you're taking a dump at work or in a public restroom and a power outage happens that lasts a long time...

DreamRoxCoogFan I'm also in Pearland and we lost power around 7am for about 45 mins. and my gf said the power went out again around 10am for about 30 mins. Luckily we invested in a standby generator after Hurricane Ike that can power the entire house as long as the natural gas keeps flowing!

I hope he was as well but from what I gather, until it starts to warm up, they have no choice.

We can handle 110 degree heat without power outages.

    We can handle Hurricanes.

We cannot handle 20 degree weather with no ice.

    Hilarious.

Our homes and buildings are not suited for this weather, and neither are we, so it stands to reason that we would consume more power trying to keep our drafty houses warm to an unreasonable temperature that we're more used to. Whereas in the summertime, we're made to roll with the 90 degree temps and high humidity.

Does heat suck more power than A/C? Are there more people using heat now than there were using A/C in the summer?

Please consider this is not a Houston deal, it's a statewide deal with the rolling power outages. We don't have ice here, but I believe places like Dallas are in much worse shape. Lots of power is being used for more than just keeping people warm in their homes in cities that are basically dealing with emergency level cold for Texas.

Yeah, I thought that the majority of household furnaces run on gas. I guess a lot of apartments and other types of complexes use electric heaters, but it still doesn't make sense that that would demand more electricity than everyone in the summer running their electric AC.

Also, I heard that some power plants in Texas were shut down because of the ice elsewhere in the State. It's not an "lol Texans can't handle the cold so they all turned their heat on!" moment.
