So these analysts are suggesting that the Rockets will only win if they have better talent than the opposing team at all 5 positions, or what? Good luck with that.. It seems to me that no team in the NBA has an advantage at all 5 positions night in and night out. (Lakers are probably the closest, but even they still run Devean George out there every night). In order to win, we need to maximize the advantages we do have talent and size wise. For this, I think the first one we need to hold responsible is Yao. If he would dominate people like the second best center in the league should be, we'd be a lot better off. Think about it, which of these is more reasonable to expect: Cato and MoT to dominating opposing PF's, or Yao dominating opposing C's? Now, Yao is not totally sucking it up or anything, but he's clearly not dominating as if he were the second best center out there. This thread is akin to the others that say things like: "MoT sucks, let's trade Moochie for Kevin Garnett!" "steve sucks, let's trade moochie for Kobe!" "How about this lineup, Yao, KG, Kobe, TMac, SF?" The bottom line is, these moves are not realistic, and our best chance to win is to exploit the mismatches that are in our favor, while minimizing the ones that aren't. Just like every other team in the league. We need to try and accept this fact.
Rockets should get four super starts in all positions except the center position. That way the beloved Yao Ming can get an championship ring while posting on the internet and talking to the media.
I like kurt thomas, he is not getting the minutes in NY now since dike's back, he should be very good for the rockets. He's tough and is fundamentally sound, a prototype pf. If I am the GM, I would try to trade steve to NY for kurt and one of the pgs... maybe charlie ward... and their young prospect guy from europe.
I'd like to get Kurt Thomas, Charlie Ward (not that i like him or anything, but we got the Van Gundy thing here) and whats his name Lampe something. It all depends...if we continue to win aganist crappy teams and keep up a good record, then I really dont see any major trade coming soon.
Have to bring up the thread again. Tonight not only KG totally ignored Cato to help defend Yao, but also their guards rotated directly to our shooters while skipping Cato. Basicly the T-wolves played 5 on 4 on defense. Under this type of situation, it's impossible to move the bal efficiently because there's no open man at all. Cato has to go back to his C position. He could one of the best backup Cs in the league instantly. However, MoT's still too much a liability on defense.... I really hope CD is working on a deal to bring in a legitimate PF who can knock down 12-15ft jumpers.
key problem to thr Rockets is passing.Simply passing is more effective we can draw a lesson from Spurs and Kings, which always find a comfortable and open shooting opportunities. I think Steve improved a lot this season in assistant, but which cost his a lot of energy,he should be more smart in the court to pass timingly and effectively to avoid wasting the best passing opportunities. PF is also problem, but not the the most important reason.
Insert passing point guard and I think Steve plays like an all-star. He's not playing like one even though he might get voted in. Steve is one of the most athletic guards in the league. He can easily attain some major numbers if he didn't have to worry about passing. The power forward spot is not a problem in my opinion. It's not like Maurice Taylor is bad. He's not a great power forward, but he holds his own on the offensive end. He's a matador on defense, but I think that can be resolved by funneling his man into the middle so help defense can come over.
You confused me, all the guys in the quoters are PFs. I dont know why you say 5 positions. Anyone can explain?
Good observation. BTW, I think we will have to make a hard decision, very hard one. Talking about athletic ability, when SF3 and Yao are on the two very different ends of react and movement speed, do you think it's possible to let 'em play harmoniusly on the same court? I thought about this for weeks and my conclusion is 'No way'. No matter what the good wishes we have about 'em and how they performed in front of the media to be buddies, fact is, we have to choose only one from the two and go look for a matchup for the remaining. These 2 genius are both TOO YOUNG to lead us into playoffs.(though SF3 plays a bit more games than Yao) They cant learn from each other, they'll just RUIN it. So the GM pls do it, trade one and bring in a veteran for the remaining guy. ricky
